The battery in my 05 pre-runner finally died yesterday. Put a new battery in it, and now the horn and ABS pump are going constantly. Tried hitting the unlock on the remote, no change. Pulled ABS and horn fuses, still have marker lights on. No dash indications at all (they were on dim with the old battery). What did that old battery fry? Where should I look next to fix it?

What process did you use to swap the battery out?

I disconnected the neg, then the pos terminals, and removed it. Connected the pos, then the neg on the new one.

Check and double check the rest of the fuses.. I had an issue with IGN 1 No 2 fuse and it took me 4 times of checking it to find it was bad.. It left me with No windows, No air control, No dash lights, No radio, etc.

Looks like it blew the 120A alternator fuse, and the 30A ABS2 fuse. Does that 120A fuse just pull out like the smaller ones do? It seems stuck, hope it didn't weld itself in there. Once I get them changed, I'll hook up the battery again and see what it does.

My friends Suby pulled a similar act. His buddy hooked the jumper cables up backwards... make sure you got your cables on correct/Got the +/- on the correct side of the battery. I know the Group 27f i have has backwards poles from the Group 27

That was it. Ohhh boy. Picture my facepalm here.....

You wouldn't know how the 120A (140A on tow equipped) Alternator fuse comes out of the block in the engine bay, would you? Is it actually screwed in underneath the box or what?

I finally got it out. After disassembling the under hood relay/fuse box. There was a connector blocking access to the rear bolt holding the fuse in.

Replaced the battery again(with a group 27F, thanks Sandman), and 4 blown fuses. Radio is the only thing that doesn't work, so I think I got lucky. I'll double check the radio fuse tomorrow.

    Thanks for the help, guys.

I just replaced my battery today, Advance had a $40 dollar off online coupon code, and there is a $25 rebate on their Gold series. Just curious what'd you get?

Sandman, battery polarity reversal happens more often that you would think, but mostly from jumping batteries, especially at night or in bad weather. Latent damage in electronic equipment like ECUs, radios, security alarms, etc. are the most affected. Good luck!

:whisper: the OP had it backwards. My battery finally failed after 7 years of use.
