I understand that. It's just that money is extremely tight right now. And will continue to be until my wife gets a job. If I can save $60, then I'd rather do it myself.

Based on what I've seen, it isn't very complicated to do. Just need some basic guidance that's all.

:notsure: Do I really need it? I do haul an estimated 1K lbs when camping (that's including passengers and gear).

    '12 DCSB TRD OR
I've been watching this thread with great interest.
I bought a '12 DCSB TRD OR. I had kind of heard about the weak toyota rear suspension so that's one of the reasons I bought the OR package. I figured the OR would have a beefier suspension. Yeah well..... just a 250lb dirtbike in the bed sags it a depressing amount. Putting a topper on pretty much leveled me out. So then I'm thinking a llittle ways down the road I'll probably get a lift and new springs anyways, but now I hear the aftermarkets don't hold up very well either?
So the whole idea of sourcing stuff at a junkyard for cheap and crafting something superior to what is otherwise available sounds awesome to me! I just wish I lived closer. Scratch that I don't want to live in Kalifornia. I wish OMD lived here. I'm fairly mechanically inclined, but I really don't know what I'm doing when it comes to this mod. Thinking maybe I should pick up a set of stock springs cheap from someone who gets new ones so I could use that mainspring + junkyard finds and be able to mess around and figure something out without taking my daily driver out of commission.

Anyways, I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for sure!

Just packed the truck up to drive the Alcan south...back to America...

    I've got sag!!

Oh, I do have about 500 Lbs. in the bed, though.

I'll be down in Seattle by the 20th - you still building leaf packs, Doug?

If you are, put me in line for a pair.

    Standing by,
    Jake

Wassup Doug, finally got around to doing the Chevy leaf mod, aka.. OMD leaf springs. First off, I have to tell u how bad my stock suspension was. Couldn't haul a load, just felt weak, and was. Put in one 33" leaf off of a '76 Chevy 3/4 ton donor pack with Bilstien 5100 shocks and achieved a 2 1/4" rear lift. Very unexpected off of only one leaf, but thats what I got. ride has improved drastically, to say the least. Buddy that helped me was doubtful with the final result, he was blown away. Can't thank you enough for all the help and guidance. Anyone out there who can turn a wrench can do this! Can't get over the improvement in ride, finally feels like a truck! Initial numbers from center of hub to bottom of fender were 22". After OMD mod, 24 1/4, both sides, after riding around and hitting some speed bumps to get stuff to settle down.

One quick question Doug, was I suppose to tighten the leaf hangers nuts/bolts while on the jack and stands or when the truck is sitting on its own weight?

Just don't over tighten it and it should be fine. If you tighten them to much there wont be any flex in the hangers... now the u bolts need tightened once on the ground and checked again in a hundred miles or so.

I tightened everything while it was still jacked up. Do I need to jack the truck back up and loosen the U-bolts? I mean the truck rides awesome, just didn't know the correct procedure for tightening the bolts.

Hi Rocco, if your not towing on a regular basis I'd dump the overload..

Tell me about it, I'm a Cali native & I don't even recognize my state anymore, it isn't the geography that sucks, just the government...

Yep still doing springs, just let me know what you want Jake...;)

Hi Brad, just re tighten now with truck on ground & your golden bro'....

This your truck after I assume ??

Yep, that's me man! I thought it turned out great, ride is so nice now. Stuff I used to try to miss on the road that would rattle my teeth, this suspension just soaks it up. Glad I didn't do two leaves, it would sho' nuff be sitting high. Now for the front, with Billy 5100s and some OME 883s. Don't think I'll be attempting that feat, just hope the shop I'm using knows what's up. Thanks again man, I'm so glad I stumbled onto this thread. Another victory for OMD springs!:D
