bull bars are old skool mod...i have an "aries" bull bar on my truck,it's only purpose is to house my driving lights, there are much nicer options available, but they are basically an outdated addition...i haven't had any problems with mine what so ever, and since it's already on,i won't be spending any extra cash to replace it...serves the purpose.my next major purchase will be tires(265-70-17);).bull bars are still relatively accepted in these parts(it's alabama...we're country as hell)but the guys sporting the "west coast prerunner style" of body mods won't use them.if i had to do it again...bull bar wouldn't be on my "mod" list.

Without knowing what you want to achieve, it's pretty hard to advise you. From a looks stand point I think they are OK, but I never have been able to figure out why people just don't get what pleases them. Your opinion is the only one that counts in that department. From a functional stand point they offer only minimal protection because they are built of light materials.

The reason some have said that they are outdated is because bullbars were originally built to augment factory bumpers back when trucks actually HAD bumpers. Those bullbars were built hell for stout and gave additional protection to the frontend. They also provided mounting points for a winch and lights. I used to build custom bullbars for people back in the late 70's, and they served people very well. Todays trucks have no bumpers so if you want any protection you will have to get a full bumper. That is why modern bullbars don't even attempt to sell themselves for that reason.

The look is not what is bad, it's the part where in a front crash they will do more damage than if you didn't have one

In my opinion a bull bar would never touch my truck. Not only are they damage multipliers should you ever hit something I do not like the look of them. Most that I have seen in person also use a very poor mounting method/design.

If I were you I would seriously consider an Avid bar. It is designed better, is much stronger, it mounts much better, and it protects more of the truck. Also much more "rare" then a bull bar. You get an avid bar and chances are you will never see any other model truck with something similar where bull bars are a dime a dozen.

    See here for Avid: http://www.avidoffroad.com/#

I had one on my truck and it saved my bumper from many scratches, dents, and dings from parking in the city. It also did a great job protecting my bumper from small branches and tree's when the need to blaze a new trail arose.

I see so what would you do to the front end to give it a beefed up look without getting rid of the stock bumper

    Paint the valance black.

Honestly I have seen bull bars do more damage than they prevent, it's basically just a mount for some lights.

I would do what XXXX suggested. At least it does offer some additional protection and is not purely for show.

I wouldn't waste my money on those things. They look chintzy as hell and don't protect anything.
