Anyone up north want to try to get in a wheeling trip next week? I am free on Wednesday, Friday and the Sat and Sun after T-giving. Let me know. I'm thinking about hitting up a 3-4 trail using TrailDamage to search for a spot. I'm not sure what the snow level is up here, and what roads are still open. If it looks like there are some interested parties I can call up the Forestry service to see about current conditions.

Looking at a block heater, I'll be in Anchorage, they say it's not as cold there compared to Fairbanks so an oil pan heater could be a better option

I don't have any friends that wheel so I am looking to meet new people to go with, so that is fine.
Not sure. I have only wheeled my truck once so I am still figuring out it's capabilities. I don't have a winch yet, so depending on if someone else who goes has one, that may help us choose where we go. I am going to try to call up the forestry service up here to see which roads are still open, because lots of them close during the winter. I am open to suggestions. We should try to get ahold of Tonto and Rucas on here too cuz it sounds like they may be more familiar with trails in this area.

What kind of trail are you looking for just a simple cruze through trail or do u want to try and test ur truck out and c what it can do? Push the limits in a sense Kelly flats is a fun easy trail penick pass is a easy one storm mnt is a easy one 7mile is a fun easy one there is a few I can think of more if but but they are a bit harder of a trail u got a lift on ur truck but ur still running street tires right?

The last time I wheeled it, it had nolift and I did Bill Moore. I wanna push it a little, but if its snowy my tires will probably hold me back. I am running BFG ATs so a LITTLE better than street tires, but nothing special. I have always been curious of Kelley Flats. Looks like there are tough parts but they have bypasses. Storm Mtn is close though.

I can tell you from my own woes on the trail that if you are going to go wheeling in the snow your best bet is mud tires. I was stuck with some friends on time for 16 hours cause none of us had snow tires and we thought we would be ok, then it started snowing and BAM, 2 feet of snow fell and it took me winching to a spot then winching each of them to me a bunch of times before we got out.
The weekend after that I got mud tires and I wont go wheeling with out them on.

Yeah thats what I'm afraid of, but Kelly Flats is pretty open to sunshine and I doubt there is any accumulation up there, but i could be wrong. Nice thing is that i think you have a pretty good view of heart attack hill before you actually have to start climbing, so we should be able to see what it looks like before we head up.

That is, if thats where we plan on going.

I saw something on the Discovery channle a while back about what they put on their vehicles in Alaska, I dont think it matters where you are there they still plug in all sorts of heaters, you should look and see if Alaska has a state website and if so, see if it has anything to say about it.
