I got a flat during hurricane sandy and have been using the spare for about 2 weeks now. I brought the rim and tire to be replaced this morning, and it will be ready tomorrow. Problem is, the low pressure light came on this evening on my way home. The tires seem ok, but im worried im gonna wake up with another flat and no spare. Its a 2012 double cab.

Can the fact that i've been using the spare be causing this? Any help would be appreciated.

My 06 reads 5 TPMS, so missing 1 or the flat is what set off your light.

unfortunately i don't have a pressure gauge with me. Im hesitant to reset the tpms as the manual says doing so will "set the bar" going forward. Im putting the new tire back on tomorrow, so i don't want to set myself up for another issue when that tire goes on.

Do the sensors sometimes give false readings due to a spare or something else?

its like 45 degrees now. I inspected the tires as best i could (its dark) with a flashlight and i don't see any obvious nails, etc. Just so frustrated...I was without power for 9 days, 2 hour gas lines, flat tire during the storm, and now this non-sense. Sorry for the rant...

I would also check the tire itself. My light came on last week and when I stopped to air up I found a screw in one of the tires which was the culprit.

You said it was fine for 2 weeks then it came on. Probably a reason. Thats also why I carry a heavy duty plug kit in my truck.

The tpms light should have been on the last 2 weeks, or since he got the flat correct? So even if the 4 tires he has on now are at the right pressure the light should still be on because the ecu is not recieving a signal from the missing tpms, am i right? I don't think you have an issue with your other tires OP, but it is strange that the light just came on now. Anyone correct me if i am wrong i am no TPMS expert.

Being your spare doesn't have a sensor and you were only running with 3 it's strange the light didn't come on sooner. I still say this whole tpms thing is complete crap.

Resetting the system won't work. He's missing a sensor... that's why the light is on.

    ^ i just loled in public...like a crazy person

Thats just what it does, blinks at first then stays solid. I wouldnt be to worried if i was you. Just make sure the tpms light will work tomorrow when you pick up your wheel and tire. You will probably have to reset it and it should stay off. I have heard that the tpms sensor can get damaged if you drive with a flat tire, so just make sure it works before you leave the tire place.

Since one of the sensors is missing then I guess you could say yes that the system is reading low pressure.
