    Coping saw. Rather than cut the corner at a straight miter or bevel, you scribe the profile of the molding and cut the profile with a coping saw for a better fit with no gaps.

    As Scroat said above , but just to add , a coped joint is less prone to open up with seasonal movement or settling as it is essentially a glorified butt joint , and lumber shrinks least along it's length
