Bedside Bottle Opener hardware

good job on supporting a fellow TW member.....

 

Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not but I'm trying to buy 2 of the brass ones from the guy... I'd much rather support a family owned business and don't mind paying a premium to do so understanding the challenges local businesses face. That being said, I'm also not made of money so even local businesses need to be somewhat competitively priced.

 

Drilled pilot holes and screwed it right in. Sturdy as can be.

This isn't a bedside opener, but I thought you guys would appreciate it. I made this out of some 2X2, and some flat stock. It's an opener, and a place to hide/lock up my spare key. key.

used some stainless steel allen bolts/washers/nuts. If you have long arms you can reach up and put the nut on the bolts... if not hopefully you have a friend with longs arms haha.

Two things.......1. I agree that it's a bitch to get the nuts threaded unless you have long skinny arms. 2. I did seal my hardware from the h20 elements however I noticed that there exists some random holes in the pylon (the one pictured in the last post) which negates the need to seal anything behind the tail light. Water will get in there regardless. It's not a weather proof section in other words. (at least not on my 09 long bed)

 

Looks like you did the bed lights mod with a switch in the back. Are you happy with it?

 

yeah i love them... wish i would've done 5050 LED's... didnt know those existed until another TW member suggested it. They are velcroed under the rails so i might change them out sooner or later.

You folks south of us seem to be a bit behind the times.... caps have screwed off bottles (beer or pop) for about 20 years up here.

What? No kiddin! On some they twist off, but it's still mostly ones you need an opener for.

 

All bottles have been "swift-off" caps since the mid to late '80's.

When I mounted mine I used some flat stock that was laying around as a backing plate to take the stress (minimal) instead of the tin or composite bed.

 

Yea if your drinking swag beer! Good beer still has the "non-twist off" caps. Plus it's a lot cooler to use your truck to open your beer for you.

Here, very few of the good mass produced beers, and none of the craft-brew are twist-off.
And pop? They don't even come in glass anymore, except for the good stuff.
Ya... Mexican Coke and Pepsi products. Original glass bottles, non-twist off caps, and NO HFCS! 100% real sugar baby!

 

So we're clear... I drink rum and scotch... and in Canada, any beer consumed in America, we refer to as pop. And what you call craft beer, we call micro brew, and guess what... twist off caps. You folks still making fire with sticks and twine, or are lighters too advanced?

Micro-brew schmicro brew.

"Micro brew" isn't anymore. Most of the micros were all gobbled up by the corporate producers. A few large, independents still exist such as Firestone, but the true "microbrewers" are now referred to as "craft" because they are still small operations controlled by the founder, like Hangar 24... still operating out of Hangar 24 at the Redlands Municipal Airport.

And very few of the large independents run twist-off. Walk through Bev-Mo and scan the hundreds of brands of beers... none of their micro/craft are twist off. Some have the ceramic plug and bail like Grolsch. If it's a twist-off, it can likely be traced to a brewery owned by AB or Miller/Coors.
