Changing Headlight Bulbs- How dumb can I be?

Ok, so I realized last night after I stopped at happy hour after work (3 beers, thats it!!) , that one of my headlights were out. SUCK. I stopped at Autozone and bought a set of the silverstars, and ATTEMPTED to put them in.
I saw where people have said for a second gen to take the whole headlight out, but I didnt, and was able to get the bulbs in to the slot at least. Now, Im not stupid, but I cant seem to get them to line up correctly in the little tabs. The metal brackets that hold them on are locked in, but I can tell from the beam that they just arent right. There are half moon indentions in the bulb surround that you can see from the front of the headlight housing, and neither side is the same. Right now, ones sitting at like 11 o clock and the other about 9 oclock angles.

Can someone shed some light about where these should sit? A picture from the front would be awesome. Do I really need to take the whole headlight out to do this? Thats plain silly if so.

 

Yea, well they did, but I cant seem to get them to sit right.

 

Do you have to put grease on the bulbs? They sell something next to the bulbs in a little packet. DO you need to use that?

 

I just swapped my headlight and foglight bulbs out last night for some Silverstar Ultras. Naturally nothing like the HID's I had in my previous vehicle, but still a nice improvement. I didn't pull my headlights out. A little tight working to get the bulb in but it went smoothly for me. Like the others said, I'd just try taking them out and putting them back in.

 

I was able to get them in and lined up without taking out the entire light but on the first one (passenger side) I managed to break the plastic tab that holds the wire spring. Am I hosed?

crap. i used silicon to glue it in but now that same side bulb went out again. Was hoping one of you guys had a better idea.
