So... a few weeks ago my Wife and I decided to buy a new computer. Usually, I just get the middle of the road PC and am done with it. But this time I opted for all the goodies, maxed out the RAM, the processor, HD space, graphics card... the works. I ordered it online and in a week it was on my doorstep.

So I plug it in and start it up. All things good. Then all of a sudden the screen turns almost completely green and staticy and the computer freezes. I turn it off and on again... same thing. I remove, clean, and replace the graphics card. It works for maybe a few hours then does the same thing. Obviously something is fucked up with the machine.

So I call customer support. The phone message says we're connecting you to IBM's Atlanta support center. Bullshit it is because everyone I talk to is from India, and out of all the people with accents, People from India are people I have the hardest time understanding what the fuck they're saying ( no offense to Indians) but anyway, it takes FOREVER for me to continually ask them to repeat what they just said and for them to understand my problem.

They must have some stupid system too because it took 40 minutes for the lady I spoke with to fill out the form. All the while she's asking me if the video card is the problem. How the fuck am I supposed to know? All I know is that computer doesn't work. So she decides to send a technician. We're all good, she says is there anything else for me to need and I tell her no, but just to please make sure that they are going to my office to fix it, at which point she tells me that she will have to write the report ALL OVER AGAIN, which again- takes ANOTHER 40 fucking minutes to do, all the while asking me the SAME questions she asked the first time! Meanwhile, she is actually mad AT ME over this and gets all huffy with me. WTF!? Its not my fault that their system is super-lame and inflexible.

So the bottom line is that whoever the person at these computer companies who decided to save a few bucks having their call centers in India with incompetent logistics software is a total dip-shit and guess what? I WILL NEVER EVER BUY ANOTHER LENOVO PRODUCT AGAIN!!!!!

What model laptop do you have? I have a IBM Thinkpad (made by Lenovo) that I had a few problems in the beginning (they replaced my mother board) and all has been well for 3 years now. IBM has support like none other.

I ordered one, but after it was delayed 4 weeks, I cancelled it and ordered a Sony instead. I'm very happy with the Sony.

Its a desktop machine. Again- total POS so far, and my experience with IBM has not been satisfactory.

Are you calling them with 800-427-7378 (800-IBM-SERV)? It's been a while since I've had to call them but I've always gotten someone that speaks good English and helpful.

My work issued me a Lenovo T61 and never had a issue with it... In fact most of our laptops are Lenovo/IBM and a small % are Dell. We have nothing but issues with our Dell's!

I'm going to give them the benefit of a doubt that ALL lenovos are bad and that I probably got a fluke computer. I assume they'll fix it and I'll be good to go. But it sort of irritates me that I didn't go with a Mac because all the time that I spent looking at computers, there was a small voice in the back of my head telling me to get a Mac because PCs are junk. The voice was right!

I've got a Lenovo thinkpad, and it's friggin rock solid. Dell is total shit though, I went through 3 dells before I returned them all and ordered a Lenovo.

First laptop was a Sager NP8790. What a beast! Had a desktop processor, two hard drives in RAID, a TV tuner, and one of the first mobile video cards. Thing was smoking fast, but was a 13lbs. brick that could grill a sandwich on the palmrests. Loud as hell when the turbo fan kicked on, and battery only lasted 20 minutes on idle.
I used to own a Dell 17" notebook, forget the model but something like 9600. Was very good, very competent, and handled games expertly. Felt like a wonderful step up from the Sager. Paint job could be better, so I got smart and put clear cotact paper down on the palmrests.

My brother has owned the same model Sager and (nearly) the same model Dell, and he's destroyed both (from a hardware perspective). He's not abusive, either. He's also destroyed nearly every computer I built for him, which were relative copies of the ones I've built myself. So, I'm not sure what to tell you - is there an outside influence to why the computers are bad?

I had Lenovo T61 notebooks at my last job, they were fine. However, I did hate the BIOS and the thumb reader
I currently use a Dell D630 at work. It's fine, nothing to get excited about. Only one thing wrong - when I use the hotkeys to change monitor output, my CTRL key gets stuck and random stuff wigs out until I restart. Not terribly surprised, other computers don't always work with this either.

All my desktops are built by me, and I won't have it any other way. I only trust certain products and I don't cut corners.

Toytec ultimate lift kit, light racing UCAs, ARB bumper and full skid plates underneath. Looking into redoing the suspension and maybe repainting the ol' Taco.
Lenovo purchased the rights to build PCs (desktop and laptops) from IBM. Typically, they make very good work computers. Fairly robust in my experience. I have had some issues with the desktop versions, but the laptops have been nothing but good for me and the company. But, they are expensive. As such, our company is switching to Dell, which I am not looking forward to. I have had issues with Dell laptops in the past.

As for Apple products. They are great at the things they are designed to do, but are kind of lame when it comes to flexibility. I prefer PCs due to the wide range of hardware and software that I can use, versus the limited selection of Apple products. But, there are give and takes for everything.

Correction, USED to be expensive. Pre-Lenovo, some (if not all) IBM laptops were made with magnesium alloy bodies. You'll still see a bit of metal to them, such as hinges, but they have become plastic now to reduce cost.

I priced a Lenovo, a Dell, and a MacBook the other day, and the Lenovo was easily the most inexpensive of the bunch.

I am at a Lenovo laptop right now. It's nothing spectacular, but it does work everyday. I don't think that i would buy anotherone though. It feels a bit cheap, butI am used to a Powerbook at home. The boss refuses to learn Mac OS, so I can't get her to switch us to Macs.

Just got mine fixed. Turned out to be a faulty graphics card. For some reason, they told me that they have been having occasional problems with NVIDIA cards, which I had understood were upper end cards. Anyway, they snapped in a new one and now it works. I guess I can't really complain since they fixed it, but still- a new computer with a problem right away?

Consider the amount of product that Lenovo is pumping out each day - there's bound to be a faulty product every now and then. Quality Control attempts to keep things within a reasonable percentage, but there's the occasional one that slips through. I've gotten bags of Doritos with no chips in them, bought sour milk from the grocery store, etc. Same story, QC can't catch them all ;)

Now the real question, is it that nVidia has been shipping bad batches of video cards, or is Lenovo trying to find a scapegoat? :D

we use lenovo laptops at my work and they seem pretty reliable, there customer support is pretty good as long as your computer is still under warranty they usually ship you a box and have you mail it to them for diagnostics if you cant figure out whats wrong

.. If possible hook up the computer to an external monitor to see if you can get a picture from the display and run the PC Doctor diagnostics available via lenovos website (support/downloads)

I love my Lenovo laptop. I abuse the shit out of it and it keeps on going. I've had to replace some keys and other parts....that my parrot decided to eat.

Upgraded memory as I could and swapped a ton hard drives out to get more room (I'm running 2 right now- one 80gig and one 120(i think) gig on a removable carrier.

I'm getting a Mac for my next computer tho. I need this one for work and stuff cause everyone still uses windows...but I love Macs.

My Lenovo T60 laptop has been great. I'm glad you got yours fixed.

BTW, whenever I need to get customer support for a computer problem I use their online chat function. That way you can understand them if they are foreign. Of course you will need another computer for that. :)

Yeah, tip - I wouldn't buy Chinese computers with the exception of Thinkpads, which I love. I only really love them, though, because IBM did a damn good job designing them the first time (and then sold the design to Lenovo).

In short, I'd buy thinkpads but look elsewhere for any other desktop or type of laptop.
