    ***UPDATE***

So I got the good tire (spare) remounted on the old wheel. So in theory the sensor should have gone off, and the guys at Sam's Club told me they reset the sensor. It was still on when I drove away. When I got home I tried to reset the pressure as the manual instructs. But now when I have the key in ACC the light just blinks constantly. Pressing the reset button does nothing. If I start the car, the light blinks for about a minute and then just stays on.

    ******END UPDATE********

So I have a new '13 with less than 700 miles on it. Today I made a couple trips with my taco to the dump to help my girlfriend empty out her garage. When I got out of the car on one of my trips, I immediately heard the rushing sound of air escaping. Sure enough, there was a gash in the front driver side tire.

These are the stock dunlops on 16" rims.

I changed the tire with the spare (it is the exact same dunlop, and I'm currently driving on it). Problem is - the tire light indicator will NOT shut off!!! I tried doing what the manual said by resetting the pressure sensors but that did not work.

I did NOT replace the old tire in the spare rack because the tire is no good at the moment. Is that what's causing the light to stay on???

Oh and this validated all the negative stuff I've read about these stock Dunlops. Is there any warranty from the tire company that will protect me?

    same shit as everyone else
You need all five TPS sensors with proper pressure in the truck for the light to go out.

When you get your tire fixed reset the light then and it'll go out.

Yes, it stays on because you only have 3 sensors showing good pressure instead of 4. Once you get the tire replaced, the light will turn off when you reset it.

There are no sensors in the spare tires since 2008, or somewhere around there.

See this is what is confusing me. I read that after '11 they stopped doing this and the extra sensor was not necessary?

Seems kinda dangerous for Toyota to do this because if you ever did find yourself in a situation where you had to use your spare but had no access to a tire shop you'd have no way of knowing if one of your 4 tires went flat.

I mean, it's not like you wouldn't know you had a bad flat. Seems like a pointless reminder.

So let me get this straight:

Since i busted a flat, I only have 3 good sensors. The spare has no sensor. So the only way to fix this is to repair or replace the busted tire? Even though it appears to be the *Exact* same tire brand.

    Ridiculous.

Read above...I think they stopped doing this after '11, but I keep getting conflicting info and wanted to confirm.

I cannot fix the sensor issue until I replace the "spare" that is currently on my car? B/c the spare has no sensor and the computer needs 4?

    That's right

There is no sensor in the spare of your truck

Might I suggest a tire pressure gauge

It'll remind you to get a new tire. Just swap the spare tire onto the rim with the TPMS and go craigslist shopping for a spare to put on the spare rim.

So 08 is the last year they had 5 sensors

You have 4 good sensors, but just 4 good tires instead of 5

Not in my 10' spare or my 12' spare either

I have a tire pressure gauge. All my tires are at the correct 30psi.

I just wanted the damn light to go off

The light will go off when you replace the flat tire on the wheel.the spare doesnt know where on the truck it is and the truck doesnt know where the flat tire is.

All the truck knows is one of the regular tires thst you normally drive with is flat. The sensors are only on the wheels thst you normally drive with. The sensors only transmit tire pressure, nothing more nothing less.

    Yes.

There really isn't a sensor issue, just a tire issue.

Don't know if you have 4 sensors, or 5. Even if you have one in the spare, I can tell you for sure that all the sensors (including the one in the flat tire) need to show proper air pressure, or the light comes on.

In my experience, fill up the tire, light goes off. I didn't even have to push the button.
