I worked for a Toyota dealership for 4 years. They do have such a department at Toyota corporate level that offers techs who are baffled by an issue. Sadly, I haven't been able to get one to care enough to actually get on the phone and try to troubleshoot. I had to get towed over 100 miles again yesterday because I got left stranded in the middle of a parking lot.
Needless to say my patience has run out. When the dealership opens tomorrow you can expect the poor service manager will get an earful from me.

I've been following your thread for some time now and I am blown away at the lack of service you have been afforded. I can't offer any additional recommendations that haven't already been thrown out there but at this point I feel you should be given a loaner from the dealer until they figure it out. I wouldn't walk out of the dealer with anything less. I will continue to follow until you update with the resolution. Very sorry that you have been dealing with this issue for so long.

i speed read through the thread and may have missed it, but was this truck purchased brand new from the dealer or was it purchased used?

I was shocked to see this thread still alive and no solution found and wondered if a previous owner may have done something (perhaps some type of mod or aftermarket work) to cause this.

The truck has been at the dealers since Monday (the 19th). We had an unseasonably warm week so it hasn't acted up all week. Snow since Friday morning so hoping they won't be able to start it tomorrow and I'll finally be able to get them to actually work on it.

    I'll keep everyone posted.

Can I make a suggestion? I may be way off the mark here, but I've seen a few odd things in my service department over the last year... 1. The under hood fuse block may have corrosion in the base where you cannot see it. We found this once by pressing down on the block and then the car would start. 2. Have you checked the quality/density of the gas? We've had cars with diesel in them from a station with the diesel in the wrong tank, and we've been seeing a TON of cars with dense gas... We had one car where the entire neck of the gas tank was water. 3. Intake gasket, if there is water or moist air getting sucked in will cause concerns. This is easy to detect, spray a little brake cleaner on the gasket and see if there's an issue. I know at my shop, if there is no duplication, and no codes, then no warranty work and then it is on you to start paying for diag fees, even if there is no issue found. But I might suggest agreeing to pay a diag fee and leave the vehicle at the shop for them to start/ check out for a cpl days. That's what we would do. TSB's only apply to a duplicated concern, so they won't just do it because someone on Tacomaworld.com says they should. I'd go in, talk to the manager and ask to have the vehicle left there for a few days to replicate the issue. In my place, I'd have you sign off on a possible diag fee, but if the issue is found and is warrantable, you'd pay nothing. Unduplicated concers, or "no problems found" repair orders are not something we look forward to. It's not a game to us, but if you come in swinging and screaming and demanding, I'm less likely to assist you. I'd say call the dealer, tell them you want to tow it in, and ASK for a loaner car. Where I work, loaners are not guaranteed by the manufacturer warranty and are provided by the dealership. I wish you all the best and hope its resolved fast and hopefully free!

Duh... Just saw that its at the dealer and waiting for diag. Sorry.

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
sub'd. I have an 09 but 4 banger manual. No security wiring but still I need to know.

Sadly no. It's still at the dealers. It's only done it a few times at the dealers and they seem to be taking their sweet time to diagnose it. They had their compute set up to it Tuesday but were unable to find the source of the problem. When I called for an update yesterday the service advisor said they'd be testing my fuel pump relay today if it won't start. I advised her it was a new one from August of this year.

Hoping to get some good news this afternoon. Or at least a confirmation that it's a warranty issue so I can get a loaner vehicle in the meantime....

Truck is still at the dealers. They got it to start in cold weather yesterday but kept it one more day to make sure the problem is indeed resolved. Haven't heard from them today. Should know more this afternoon.

As of yesterday they had the equivalence of 1.5 days worth of troubleshooting into it. Per their computer, everything is fine. No codes, it cranks fine, all fuel related relays are working properly, etc.

Quick update, it's been at the dealership 4 weeks today and still nothing... I'm about to go nuclear on them. Unacceptable.
Will be driving through tomorrow and stopping in to have a chat with the service manager and the owner.

    UPDATE *** "Solved" ***

Well after 7.5 weeks of being taco-less I got a call from the dealer this morning saying they believe to have fixed the problem and it's ready to go!!

After many weeks of waiting for the weather to cooperate and various parts swap they believe it to be a faulty Transponder key ECU assembly. I have the truck back and now the next cold snap will be the test.

Fingers crossed this is now solved and I have a dependable vehicle again!!!!
