I'm sorry, but i really don't like the flat black, and it looks by the picture there are some gaps. The kit paint doesn't match the AC controls on the scosche kit. I'm happy with my metra kit. Had to do minor widening of the hole for my radio, but it fits perfect and looks stock and used the factory metal brackets. for only $25

However I do understand that there are different trim levels in the new trucks. Flat black or glossy. Mine is glossy. If scosche made a glossy I would think about it just to try the look.

Better too small than too big.

lol i implore you to point out said 'gaps'... you're seeing a shadow made by two concave surfaces.
the finish on the schoshe kit matches the matte OE trim, including the AC controls. AC panel is shadowed because its recessed forward . Putting a glossy metallic kit into trucks fitted from the factory with matte black trim isnt an option.

The surround cut out around the DNX9990HD is even, and with less than a 1/16 or 1/32 at the top, its just enough for allow the face to auto tilt without any interference (unlike the 2011 kits), no trimming required.

    maykevin5,

I have the same HU and the Metra kit. Tried using the metal factory brackets but the angle of the HU was wrong (too upright). Not happy with the fitment with the plastic brackets - I can't get it to fit exactly straight, but at least it all went together.

If you have a photo of which holes you used to mount the brackets to the HU can you share?

    Thx

For what it's worth, I contacted Scosche about getting their kit in the shiny black, so it matches the majority of TRD-owner's trucks (I agree the flat black is unfortunate, considering everything else about the kit seems superior to what Meta is offering). Here was the reply:

Okay I’m not too sure if we are but I can find out and see if it might come in the color.

    Regards ,

    That looks good!

Question! What is that bar in between your clock and the A/C controls? The one with the switch and 4 white lights?

Nevermind, I am a dumb dumb. Its the flyzeye thingy right? I though it might have been a hidden radar detector switch or something.

What sort of modification was necessary to fit the 2012 Metra kit with the Pioneer 4400? Do you actually need to increase the size of the opening? Any advise would be appreciated.

Why would they NOT offer a gloss version? Makes no sense at all. Lets wait over a year to get a kit out there that won't match 90% of the trucks. Good move morons!!!

Waiting for the Craigslist job posting "R&D person needed at scosche, PLEASE!!!"

Nice install B737! Looks really good! I hope to get mine in this weekend.

I prefer the Flat Black! I am not a Bling Bling type person. Not too big on chrome either!

excellent! post up some pictures asap for more comparison.

honestly i thought we were going to have to wait a lot longer for a flat black kit. i was very thankful they released this. my dash finally looks like a new truck again instead of the 2011 kit mashed in there.

I think scosche did this for market share. had they released a glossy one out of the gate theyd be competing with metra right off the bat. while most of the trucks on this forum might be glossy with silver trim, i bet there is a huge majority of trucks out there with flat black.

im sure as time goes on both will release different finishes. but for those of us who 'gotta have it' it was a huge relief to be able to pick one or the other.

    Greetings,

    Thank you for contacting Scosche.

Unfortunately we do not have current plans to produce a gloss version of the kit. If you would like to go ahead and go with the flat black, feel free to use the 'techhead' discount code upon checkout for 20% off your order.

If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to let me know.

    Thank you,

For the 2012 taco, do you have to remove the front stereo face in order to have access to the screws to remove the airbag indicator (box)?

No you do not. Temp and fan control garnish comes off first. Use a plastic putty knife and pry it off at the bottom of the temp garnish. There is only 4 white clips hoding it on. Fairly easy.

I meant the airbag indicator/clock box.
