Harbor Freight benders are for pipe, not tube. The diameter of pipe is measured by ID and tube is meaured by OD. The problem is the die doesnt fit correctly and it can end up kinking the tube. I have a read a bunch of people that get the to work by sleeving the tube with pipe, or packing the tube with sand. IMO just get a JD2 or the one below and sell it when your done

This one is $300 with a die and if your just using it for a few bends I am sure it would be fine

i would suggest in your case to just find a local shop and have them make those 8 to ten bends for you. if your not wanting to keep a bender you buy, that harbor freight kinker is a pile unless you do a bit of work to it as well. save yourself the time and headache and just have a shop make those bends.

Ah got it, wasn't sure if it was a mistake in the title or something as there seemed to be some confusion in the reviews about pipe/tube.

I like that other option, I guess it just depends on what steel I end up using?

Don't know of any shops nearby except 4xInnovations a couple hours away. Adam is probably the only one I'd trust anyway. I'd prefer to do the work myself, but it's always an option.

On another note, what type of steel are tube front bumpers usually built with anyway? I think most sliders I've seen are .120 DOM, is that a good way to go or is it completely unnecessary?

So is silver soldering as strong as MIG welding? I heard it was. I could try some projects that way for my truck. This guy used SSF-6 silver solder. Whatever that means. Sounds expensive, but has anyone heard of this or tried?

Just received the plans for this nice tool.

However, I just find out that a single die sells for about $350-400 here in Canada . Well, I guess that is the way to go, since I only have 1 size of tubing to bent for now, and I already have 2 projects requiring the use of this bender. I'm pretty sure I will get more soon :p.

That single die sells for big $$ everywhere. That's why so many fab shops offer 1.75", 1.75" or 1.75" take your pick. I have everything from 5/8" up to 2" and it took a lot of jobs to collect all those.

I also found some plans to make my own dies. I have a friend who have access to a good milling machine and told me he can easily produce them. However due to it's location he do not have access to any raw materials. I will need to get what he need to it's actual location.

    was afraid of that..

True. Way to beefy for what I'm using it for though.

I want to put a light on the end of a pole that can extend. I want it to fold parallel with my bed rack for storage but then fold perpendicular so. Can use it as a camp light by the bed..so I need some that hinges and holds a small little tube.

    Sing out latch??

Finally!! Full Hydro no more HF air over Hydro.

1hp 3000psi pump and 3.5" x 30" ram with CNC stop 90* bends in under 25 sec  I just have to get the lines made and some fluid and were ready to bend.

That's the little air over hydro ram that was on the bender before. this thing dwarfs it :D
