At the 125th Fighter Wing we just finished our Phase II Operational Readiness Inspection. I've been through 7 or 8 ORIs in my career but this was probably the worst week I've had in years! The 125th is a stand alone unit but was "Deployed to Al Udied, Qatar. For those of you that don't know, the air force has a pretty big operation there. The bomb dump is huge with hundreds of troops assigned to it. But we were graded as if we were the only ones there. 15 people on night shift to provide missile, chaff/flare and 20mm ammo support for 12 aircraft. I was the night shift supervisor for Missile build-up. I had three people including myself to build-up 96 missiles just for the first "go". Tell me this, how many troops would be on missile build up on an active duty base? We did it with incredible odds against us. The IG was up my ass from the start. Anybody that knows the AMMO career field knows that building missiles with three people would never happen. And the supervisor would be overseeing the operation not actually being a crew member. When I finally ran out of missiles to build, we had to get resupplied. Normally you would have Storage deliver your resupply. Not here! I had to resupply myself. Every time I would try to get an operation going the damn IG would come in with an inject card and I'd have to deal with that on top of wearing that stupid chem gear.
Well, we just found out our grade. The 125th got an Excellent! Munitions got a Satisfactory but they said we needed alot of work. Fuk them and the horse they rode in on! We busted our tails to have this lead inspector talk down to us. I truly believe this guy had a boner for the Air Guard. Hell, most of us have a least 10 years active duty behind us. It burns my ass that POS didn't give us a better grade.
OK, I feel slightly better now that I ranted on for several minutes. Thank you

Rant on man, I hate ORI inspectors also, we had our ORI in february, we did well (I am not an ammo troop tho), but some of the inspectors are complete dousche faces who keep saying "well at my base we do this, at my base we do that" Fuck them assheads. Give you shit grades over their opinions instead of fails for not following REGULATIONS.

The upside is that you passed. We failed back to back ORI's when i was in Misawa Japan. We spent the next 8 months wearing chem gear and playing war until we were retested and finally passed. It sucks when you are on a joint service base and that siren goes off. All the other services laugh at your ass as you put on your gear no matter where you are at. If you walk out that BX, Commissary, or even church you better have that chem bag ready to jump in that shit. I hated life during that time as wearing that gear and mask sucks. 8 months of ORI excercise takes it toll on moral and yoru health. I guess the alternative is death in a real world situation.

I have a MAJCOM COMSEC inspection 2 weeks. I have inspections from the base every 2 months, and they go back 3 years every time and find something else they want us to do different than ever before. Plus we have to do things the way the IG at AFSPC tells us, not the way that everyone else in the AF does things. They even claim to have more authority than AFCA!

Since the whole nuke missle debacle, I see every area of the AF getting hit hard with inspections. Your rant is spot on. I fully understand what you're talking about. All while at Al Udied, one of the most depressing places on the planet. I was happy to be at As Sayliyah instead last year :D

Things have sure changed in my 23+ years. But I only have 138 days left until my terminal leave starts :bananadance:

    Congrats on doing well.

I was at Misawa back in 91. I thought that place would never fail an inspection.

Congrats! What are you gonna do when you get out?

You lucky POS! Why are you going to Macdill?

what does the Coast Guard call their inspections?

What is it that you do? It sounds like it sucks ass. Congrats on being short. What are you gonna do when you get out?

I went through several in the Navy. They are called OPPE's and they suck. You bust your ass for 30 days straight, no time off. Officers and Chiefs all up your ass the entire time stressing and for what.. So the c/o can get his promotion to a larger ship or command. Every one I went through right afterwards we had a command change. As my last tour was about to end we were gearing up for another one. I could have cared less and my chief knew it. My divo was well aware and he told me to stay low and hide for two weeks. Cool guy he was.

You came right at the end of failure and beginning of the good. I was in Misawa from 88-92. 88-90 was some tough times. F-16s were literally falling apart on the runway. The wing commander had his whole front wheel assembly break off as they were running up the engines. Pencil whipping maintenance records took their toll. We played war games nonstop for what seemed like years. Nonstop excercise mode eventually fixed that flightline. It almost broke the moral of every other person on base but that is the perils of being on a fighter base.

I am out now, but Im here at Eglin AFB in florida. They want to bring in a wing of F-35s and the nearby city is sueing to block it. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

I worked at Ft Bragg for about a year as a contractor with a company called SSDS out of Raleigh. I was doing some Windows server roll out project. This was back in 97. I made the drive for a year from Raleigh to Ft Bragg and then I got transferred to work a project at McDill in FL. I spent 3 months there and quit and went back to Raleigh to work for AT&T, been there ever since.

Fort Walton Beach is sueing? Why in hell would they do that? When I was assigned there all sorts of tactical aircraft flew right over the city. No one seemed to mind then. I worked at the High Explosive Research and Development facility from 82-84. The city sure seemed like they enjoyed the money from us military!

Missle- The inspections that come the closest are called the Command Assessment of Readiness and Training (CART) and Tailored Annual Cutter Training (TACT) for ships.

The land units have STAN(dardization) visits. It sounds like your ORI covers everything...We have STAN teams for different topics. They come in a do a training visit/inspection every 12-18 months. Ordnance goes thru some extra inspections....As does COMSEC/ClassMat.
