Toyota just needs to go ahead and release the Hiloma in 2014 and offer a V-6 and a turbo diesel.

That whole site overlandexpo.com is really cool. A lot of info about over landing 4x4, motorcycles and lots of cool tips and gear review. The sight has really piqued my interest in getting back outside a lot more.

Excellent article, thanks for providing the link! I have a 2012 Tacoma with the gasoline V6 powerplant. I would have certainly concidered a diesel motor if it were available and proven for MY purchase.

They have left hand drive Hilux trucks in Mexico.

But Toyota is not merging the Tacoma and Hilux anytime soon. Not for at least 10-12 years from now, if ever.

160 horse and 252 ft lbs of torque... how is that more desirable than our 4.0l's? christ, the 2.7 gets 180 horse... other than milage, what is so special about the D4-D?

Diesel motors are known to last longer, and I could see people using them to tow.

You have an inside source for this do you? They already have a deal with Mazda to re-badge the Mazda2 for them in Mexico. I'm pretty sure Toyota needs to cut costs and re-organize their operations just like everyone else. Cutting the production of two trucks and creating a global platform makes sense.
