If it came with a factory e-locker, why would a company offer an e-locker for the diff?

EDIT: I just checked out the Toyota austrailia site and can't find anything about the Hilux's have a factory locker, not even in the rear. Looks like they only come with an LSD rear.

Not an issue if you use nitrogen to actuate the locker; instant pressure and no moisture.

That's a good point. How feasible is nitrogen to get though? If it runs like using a CO2 system on a locker the cost is easily justified to go the ARB route.

I think you missed a step. The fj's,05+ hilux,LC Prado 120/150, 05+ Tacoma all have the same front diff. All this is doing is putting a locker in instead of the spider carrier that is in there now.

This Elocker does not have an actuator like toyotas Elocker, instead this uses an elcrtomagnet to lock the diff. There is a video showing its function kinda neat.

As for the rest of the questions, im doing this because im curious of options i have never been a guy that goes the easy way of things, dont know why im just screwed up that way. So now that i have seemed to shit in some cornflakes, im committed to prove something now. That is all for now.

I'd guess the front locker market is so small on the 2nd gens that ARB pretty much holds it. Although if Eaton originally designed the locker, I don't see why they wouldn't at least offer it along side their rear lockers.

Looks like someone else has covered this same ground, but for a first gen:

    http://www.yotatech.com/f31/harrop-eaton-elocker-tacoma-259801/

So, it seems like it would work net of some final checking before plunking down the hard earned denero. So post up the converted pricing for the unit itself, and including shipping, and we'll call it a thread; unless you carry through and actually post install pics.

I was on eatons web site and didnt see any elocker on there. Dont forget eaton just sold the rights to the design of the locker, harrop manufacterd the locker. Thus the eaton/harrop tagged name. So harrop only made for there local vehicles wich happens to have the same front diff.

well look at it from the company's standpoint. Plop 30k down for a truck. another few grand to ship it to australia, and another few grand for import fees. Then add some for testing. You're now up to $40-$50,000 for a market and application you're unsure about in the first place.

That being said, ghost if you do decide to go through with it you should have a few talks with the company. If you document it well and it works out without requiring any machining they may give you a discount for your R&D.

Not all foreign cruisers are locked. The only major difference difference is gas/diesel and lhd/rhd.

why bring cost associated to the ARB back into this.... IMO we know its expensive, but someone who already has an E LOCKER IMO this is probably a better setup

If I could get an OX locker trust me I wouldnt be using an ARB

With the rear elocker the only way to change it out is get a rear axel off a trd sport and put in a locker. Once you have the toyota elocker your stuck withit. Damn potato chips

I also contacted all mighty ZUK. The diff master, the email replies:

Hi Tony-Very interesting about the Australian e-locker. I read the links. I'm not sure how much help I can be in the case of the clamshell 3rds. I have actually chosen to stay away from doing gear installs in them due to the awkward nature of teardown/assembly. But it does look like they should fit in your 2009 model since they fit in the FJ Cruisers that have the same exact clamshell. Even if those thick 456 gears do manage to touch the Harrop case (like some pinions do on the ARBs) then the solution is exactly the same....just bevel the corners of the toe end of the pinion teeth.

Those 456 gears are special thick gears....the ring is extra thick and grows into the pinion so that the gears will mesh properly just like as if they were the 373 ratio. I'm sure the reason the ring is extra thick is because the carrier bearing washer plates cannot adjust that far.

application that you would be ordering for is 373 and under.

I then asked if he would do the assembling for me... He said no because he doesnt like working on the clam diffs... Im glad he helped me none the less... Thanks again ZUK
