    I do. :D

They do need to cut costs. Creating a global would make sense if the global markets all wanted the same type of vehicle, or with minor changes for different countries. Safety standards in Southeast Asia and Latin and South American where the Hilux does the majority of its sales aren't as high as North America. They would have to overbuild the safety of the Hilux, which is very cost prohibitive.

Yes, the safety requirements in those areas is increasing from what it was in the past, but again, like I said, not in the cards for the next 10-12 years.

Exactly, just make one truck globally already, or atleast offer diesel in here, but not for extra $5k though and keep the I4 and V6. Everyone wins.

Looks like the best mid size out there atm. (although it is getting close to full size in reality)

So basically you want all the extra capability/capacity and don't want to pay for it... Everyone would win, except for Toyota. This is another reason why Toyota won't be bringing a Hilux or merged Tacoma/Hilux to the U.S.

The global version of the Ranger and the Hilux are priced MUCH higher than any compact pickup truck.

Australian prices, just as a proxy, can reach upwards of $60K U.S. for a double cab, 4wd, etc.

The only thing I would really like on the Hilux over my Taco is the better fuel economy. I like the styling better on the Taco and the bed material and frame strength are not issues to me.

I do not understand why there are not more diesel engine options for American cars.

    Emissions
    Perception (dump truck mentality)
    Initial cost

Hilux D4D has 1000lb LESS towing capacity than the Taco 4.0L!

Also, keep in mind that most of the amazing sounding diesel mpg's are rated in imperial gallons... Not US!

    this...

all I'm looking for is more mpg and it seems like the diesel would be the quickest route. The Taco styling is on point - just want the mpg boost.

If a diesel Taco is going to run that high count me out...

I admit I did not really do much research on this, especially pricing.

I may be wrong, but don't australians have higher wages in general, but they pay more for many goods in return?

It seems more economical to me to develop one truck instead of two and sell it globally therefore I said yes for a "Tacolux".

And yes, I'm looking for more mpg as it is sad I get as much as a full size while still having smaller and ligher truck with a smaller displacement engine. It also bugs me that a comparable Hilux has twice the payload Tacoma has.

You've got that backwards. 27 imperial MPG would be 22ish US mpg

    Yeah.
From the article, it doesn't seem that much development would be needed to merge the 2 designs. They are already nearly identical other than slight differences in frame, engine choices, and bed material.

A few years ago when I was in Cain's I seem to remember minimum wage being $18/hr.

Saw Dodge is advertising 25mpg highway on their new 1500's. It really is sad that we're not getting at least the same out of our smaller trucks!

Yea but that is their V6 2wd with an 8 spd transmission. Might as well be a sedan.

Nope. My buddys 5.7L hemi 4x4 often gets 23+ mpg average on highway trips. Not too bad if u ask me. Bush driving and city driving is another story though

ok both of these do not answer my question. our v6 has more torque, and horsepower. other than mpg, there is nothing appealing about that motor.

We Import these trucks at work for our US government and the hilux is not that awesome when you get down to the nitty gritty. They're slow as hell, tow less than a tacoma, body is weaker and thinner metal, interior is actually cheaper and brake just as bad as tacomas do. The only thing i give them is the better mpg and the frame is much better than the taco, and the bed is full metal.

I would want the v8 turbo diesel they offer in the landcrusiers from overseas ( which we have also). Those things have awesome power and mpg..
