Colonoscopy...

Anyone else had the joy of this experience?

actually...the procedure was nothing (the iv anesthesia assured this), but the prep drink and almost 2 days with no food did suck. Good news is...I'm good to go, and had me a nice steak/potatoe/salad/bread, to re-fuel the body

Doc said my exhaust is so clean I must have a CAI and use clean fuels.

 

Congrats! They are no fun....I'm only 29 and had to have one. Thank god I did, they found a pollup.

 

Turn 30 in January... not looking forward to my first exam

 

I did one 3 years ago at the suggestion of my doctor, due to age and family history of cancer. Was a truly miserable experience due to having a doctor who had his own way of doing things. 60+ hours without food, 48 hours of pumping laxatives thru me, which left me with the runs for a week afterwards (after every meal) and pain and burning (like a torch) for 2 weeks after. When I called to ask questions, they said "it's the way Dr. wants it done", and that I had to see the doctor and pay co-pay again to get better explanations.

Now my wife has to get one, and her doctor has it as no food for less than 24 hours, and maybe 10 hours of liquid laxative. I wouldn't be so afraid and averse to it if it had been this way.

If you have to do it, do the homework. There are easier ways with some than others. And the anesthetic isn't a requirement. I know 2 people who do without it, even with polyp removal, that say it's no biggie.

Yep... That crap drink is quite an experience. Good times!!

 

I was supposed to have one on the day after Hurricaine Sandy hit the east coast - all appointments were cancelled and I foud out before I started the "prep" drink. I had to reschedule - my wife went the day after I was supposed to.

My turn is now on 19 December.

 

I got it done after I shit a lot of blood. Scary thought. No anesthesia. Found one polyp . All clear now. Humbling experience .

 

Any idea why the blood?

A friend had one recently, that 'drink' had him on the can for hours clearing his exhaust pipe.

I'm 45 and probably due for one.... and I always thought the 'jelly finger' was bad enough to experience.

 

I had several of them. First time they found a polylups the size of a grape. Had no simptoms, just went as part of a physical. 3 years later I had a polylups they could not remove because they were afraid of pucturing the colon. Had to have it sectioned, cut the colon like a garden hose, took the piece out and sewed it back together. Been about 12 years now, if I did not go the first time I would have died from colon cancer. They have improved on the crap you have to drink. Went last year and the drink was not nearly as bad as previous years. The test in nothing, they knock you out. Its the prep that is uncomfortable, but not as uncomfortable as getting colon cancer.

 

Oh Yeah I've had several and it's not as bad as you would think if they knock you out. Use sugar free country time lemonade when they give you the drink and it really helps.

The worst part of all this is when they blow up the colon to look around (that's right you got an air hose, camera and lite up your ass-to look around) and after you come out of the anesthia you can fart like a race horse for minutes on end. My first one didn't prepare me for that and I had to walk by the hospital pharmacy where about 20 people were waiting for prescriptions. I just couldn't hold it anymore and the motor started and there was absolutely nothing I could do except get a red face. After I walked past everyone the laughter and applause for me was unbelievable. I had a female (SGT Major) who drove me home and I told her I couldn't help my self from breaking wind and she said "just let it go!" And I did. I think I must have farted for 6 miles and she was laughing her ass off the whole way.

But they got all the polyops then and the next year they got two more. Three years after that I was clean. You talk about relief (besides farting) I was a happy man...no cancer. By the way they're are two types of procedures. A long colonoscopy and a short one. The long one uses the iv to knock you out. DO NOT TAKE YOUR WIFE INTO THE PROCEDURE ROOM. You don't know what you'll say. My last one had the nurse laughing her ass off when she woke me up telling me I taught them some new words.

All in all....well worth it.

Inner hemiroids. Right at the exit.. I didnt know i had them. No pain , no nothing. except for a handfull of bright red blood.

 

I hear ya..30 is only a couple years away

 

Been there too. It scared the crap out of me (pun intended). Just glad that's all it was. Now just have to eat more fiber and less garbage food.

 

Have baby wipes handy, and apply Desitin before taking your first drink of well-refrigerated prep. Have your exam scheduled for the afternoon, then you can sleep most of your hunger away. I had an easier time waking up hungry, instead of spending the evening starving.
