I'm talking about all stimulant drug's. They're all the same. I've seen a, now distant, friend coked out of his mind get kicked in the chest by a ~10 month old horse and then later climbed into the back of the ambulance under his own power. I don't believe bird shot would stop someone that was in his condition intent on stealing your money

And training is what worried me from post #1 in this thread, and was touched on earlier regarding clearing the house.

You don't clear it. Even cops don't clear a house solo.
You map out defensible spaces, safe retreat areas, and identify any fatal funnels.
Your job is to avoid the fatal funnels, and make the intruder use them to get to you and your family.

    In my case, the stairwell.
I don't go downstairs... I can't slice the pie at the bottom of the stairs to clear the living room, and at the point I'm halfway down the stairs, I have no clear backstops.
No... I remain at the top of the stairs. My backstop is the front door, and the concrete in front of it. A ricochet might crack a window across the walkway, but there's not going to be enough left of a JHP after going through the door and hitting the concrete to kill.

If the bogey is able to get through the 20 rounds coming down the stairs, my retreat point is around the corner, behind the bed. At this point, I still have relatively clear backstop... No occupied dwellings on the other side of 2 walls of the 2nd floor.

They all basically do the same thing and that's speed everything up and flood your brain with dopamine and other feel good chemicals. That was the turning point in his usage for him. Last I heard he was clean.

True... I wasn't really speaking to after the shooting. I was meaning at any time, especially online.
Things said have a habit of appearing in court documents.

As far as speaking to anyone other than your attorney after the shooting, some is unavoidable, but need to be limited to:

911 operator "There is an intruder in my home, I think he may have been shot, I need an ambulance and officer"
"My name is ____, I am wearing blue shorts and am bald, I will be near the front door, my wife is wearing a black robe and will be upstairs"

This does not admit any guilt to anything, and provides your description so the responding cops know who the "good guys" are.

To the responding officer "I was in fear for my life, I'm pretty shaken up right now, I'd be happy to talk about this tomorrow (after I have a chance to talk to my attorney)"

I was furthering the point that it's something they do down here in the US.

The laws here in New York can get tricky. Different counties, different laws. OP, I'm in Nassau county south shore and dealt with the same issues of looters. Thank god for good neighbors and friends we were extra protected. We had a solid presence of cops and army/ national guard patrolling.
I'm taking the next gun safety class I take and getting my self a shotgun. And hunting class for fun. The local gun shops can be extremely helpful. I'm also not sure pistol grips on shotguns are legal here to non law enforcement.

Research it for yourself in the penal code.

The worst sources of information on gun laws... in no particular order, they're all pretty much equal:

    Cops
The guy at the gun shop
The customer at the gun shop
    A "gun nut" friend
A "gun nut" that a friend knows
With a few exceptions - Internet forums.

There are some good forums out there, but even excellent sites like Calguns, don't take it at face value. Listen to the guy who explains the law, and provides you with the section in the penal code covering it.

Also remember, that which is not forbidden is permitted. The penal code does not cover what is legal, unless it is an exception to something that is illegal, Example: High cap magazines are illegal UNLESS they were acquired prior to the ban.

Pistol grips, flash hiders, telescoping and folding buttstocks... they may all be mentioned in the code, BUT check the context. If the context indicates "semi automatic", then pump, bolt, and lever action firearms are not covered by the section.

Even here in Commiefornia, anything goes on pump/bolt/lever unless it's an SBR/SBS/AOW, or prohibited ammo such as tracers or other incendiary.

Get an inexpensive Mossburg 12 ga. pump. It will do the job just fine. You don't need a fancy Remington or Browning for what you are using it for. The racking of the slide will be enough to scare off most intruders.

Like bear spray... this is also a felony in California.

We had an incident in my city a few years ago. Some kids were driving around in the evening and shining red lasers at people.
One of the kids got shot.
The shooter was not charged, he believed that his life was in danger.
The other 3 kids were charged with felonies.

I wasn't the shooter, but these kids had "painted" me as I was exiting a small business park to the parking lot.

If I need to protect myself and/or my family in or outside of my house, and I don't have a firearm, I'll use whatever works.

How is a laser pointer going to protect you?

Same reason I don't have lasers on my guns... it is a very effective "shoot here" pointer. It reveals your exact position. A bright flashlight causes some dazzling, and if held high and to the weak side, does not reveal your exact position and can be disorienting.

Like "the sound of a shotgun being racked".... it's not going to scare anyone away, it's going to give them a heads up that they need to shoot first.
It is just as bad as yelling "I have a gun and I'm not afraid to use it!"
That warning indicates that you ARE afraid to use it.
