That comes off with the whole unit. Once the stock stereo is removed the clock detaches from the back. There is a video on youtube on how to do it. Im on my mobile or id qive you the link.

Finally got it out. Had to bring inside my office. Standing inside the garage I couldn't concentrate.

If I used the metra wiring harness, do I have to still run the ground wire to a metal ?

    The harness ground should connect to the radio ground (black wire}

Thanks. I did that and also split it out to a metal frame nearby.

For the metra kit, the top clips doesn't hold well. It pops out one end after a drive (either pops out right or left side) . Thinking about shaving off the pegs, but would that cause vibrate? Maybe use a light duty caulking.

Also the bottom left where it meets the temperature control panel, there a slight gap.

Btw, I was able to use the stocking metal brackets with the avic x940bt.

Where's Darren at? I wanna know when I can get one of these for free on Crutchfield with my radio order! I talked to a rep the other day but no joy. Figured he may know something being a Taco driver.

I just received the same message from Scosche today:

I have talked to the R&D department and are not going to have the kit available in a glossy black , I did forward the suggestion on having the kit available in a glossy black to see if it might be a option in the near future .

If this becomes a option or the kit does become available I will be sure to notify you via email.

Please feel free to forward us any further questions you may have.

    Best regards ,

So it would appear as though if you want a glossy kit, but questionable fit, go Metra. If you want a matte black kit, but solid fit, go Scosche.

And if you are in the probably more than half of us group that want a glossy kit with a good fit, apparently we can talk to the complaint department...

Could be wrong but the a/c panel looks like it could be black sand pearl. Maybe painting the scosche kit would be an option.

Got a question from my install yesterday.

On the manual of the Avic X940BT it says orange/white cable "to lighting switch terminal".

Do I connect it to the metra wiring harness dimmer cable (also orange/wire)?

Does it work with the metra harness and the tacoma?

I remember in the old days the dimmer cable would work with most vehicles. Btw, I didn't connect mine. The Nav screen is a little bright at night.

toyotas use a different type of dimmer than you're used to, its a variable negative ground which really jacks things up...

my DNX9990HD has a feature, im not sure if the 940bt does, but it may have a feature that dims the HU based on a combination of its photo sensor and the time of day. my 9990HD isnt hooked up to the dimmer wire cause due to the reasons above, but using the built in photo sensor and time of day syncing (w gps) its been a perfect set up. very dim at night.

im very sensitive to stuff that's too bright in the cabin at night. its a distraction and causes too much fatigue. so i can understand this would bug you.

i could be wrong though, maybe theres a work around for this on your particular unit...

Thanks for you detail response. I was like trying to be okay with it. Then the wife sat on the car and started complaining so I realize it is too bright :). It lid up the cabin like a christmas tree.

I did figure a way to adjust the picture by lowering the brightness but it will stay like that during the day time. I should be fine.

I don't remember wich wire I used. There were two orange wires. One said dimmer and the other said illum. My pioneer dims when I turn the headlights on so I must have chosen the right wire. Good luck.

I finally got my Pioneer installed today: Scosche Kit fits really well. Clips in nice and tight and a perfect match for those of us with the flat black finish.

I just bought a new JL XD 500/3 today. Is it hard to run wires to the back of a DC without tearing up the truck? I am looking to put the amp and sub behind the rear back of passenger seats.

I just installed an Avic x940bt last week. Planning to run the following:

    fronts: focal 165 v30
    rears: whatever powered by HU
sub: jl 10w3v with home made box or buy

I have installed stereos in my previous 350z, s2000, etc.

NICE components! if your DC is anything like the AC its SUPER easy. take down the lower parts of the dash trim, pull up on the floor sills and go back...

Do some research on whether the jl w3 will fit behind the seat. There is a custom box for your truck that cost 100 bucks. And some subs wont fit.

Did you have to pull the floor carpet in the middle in order to run the wires?
