Do Double Cab LB's hold value better?

I'm pretty sure I've convinced myself the solution to my lack of cab room issue is to get rid of my AC, and get into a double cab longbed (I had considered just going fullsize, and that is still very much an option). However, for one, the used ones are rare, and the ones I do find are listed a bit high for my liking. I found a silver dbl cab longbed with 56k miles (2006). They want $19,400. I KNOW my AC TRD offroad 4wd (basically loaded) with 77K won't get much more than 16000 retail, so I would be about $5K back into the hole (my truck is paid for) after T,T,&T's.

Do these trucks just hold their value because they're rare or what? Granted, I haven't been in the market for a year and a half, and when I was looking for a truck before I bought mine, it didn't take long to find a STEAL which is what I ended up buying (wish I would have through it through a bit, though since the AC was a poor choice).

 

The double and AC cabs are the truck-cab-to-buy. I imagain the DC would hold there value better. Every body wants them

 

I looked long and hard for a used longbed double cab. I never found one so I bought a new 09 short box. Glad I did as I like the short turning radius. It's a different story when i'm loading my 2 full size dirt bikes in there and the tires are hanging off the end of the tailgate.

If you were selling on the private market, you may find more value in the longbed because there will be someone who NEEDS the longer bed. Trade-in will be about the same.
Remember, they are more expensive in the first place. If you pay more up front and get more on the back, you haven't gotten anywhere. Get what you want and don't worry about it.


Regardless, the Tacoma's will hold their value better than any other truck on the market (larger or smaller). With gas prices more likely to go up than down, the larger trucks will get killed years down the road.

 

Very true. Tacomas(maybe Tundras) will always be strong in the new used or trade market.

I looked for a long time to find my truck.

I went from a 4x4 AC TRD SPORT to a 4x4 DC LB TRD SPORT.
Had to be a longbed and HAD to be a TRD SPORT!!
It was hard to find.

 

They didn't make the TRD Off Road in the long bed. Good thing you required the Sport package!

 

My DC shortbed is great! Agree with the bike issue but...I don't have a bike. LongBeds look like a schoolbus!

 

I searched for a used DC LB for months. All I found down here cost the same as new, or maybe $2000 cheaper with 50k on the clock.

I would say they hold they're value incredibly well. I know my 09 TM DC LB was the only one in the gulf states available for 3 months. Happy to have it.
