Where's Windows 2000? I never heard of Windows Me. Maybe I'm a retard, lol. :D
I didn't even know there was a Windows 8 out now. Last I remember was Vista, which is what I have- and it SUCKS.

Yes, iOS6 is such an amazing hit.
Also, macs have a fun layer of BS when trying to hook up to corporate networks.

If you are talking about the app store, yes it needs a lot of growing up.

Type 'control'. The computer instantly starts coming up with results, one of them being the control panel. I'm not sure what searching for 'settings' does, but I'm sure you'd find something.

It's a server-level OS that wasn't really targeted to the general public, it was more for business. However, it worked fantastically well as a bridge between 98 and XP.
Also, you may notice they left out the various versions of Windows NT and Server.;)

It wasn't out for more than about a year. It was that bad. Funny enough, I had a closed beta release when I was working for Intel, and it was really solid until I got a wild hair and decided to reinstall - from then on it was terrible.

I've been doing the same at work, both on a tablet and laptop and it took a little to get used to, but now it's second nature. To each their own....

I formatted my hard drive and back to windows 7. Windows 8 is trash. Everything they come out with now a days is trash. What happened to good ole quality stuff?

I tried the Beta version when it first came out. Hated it. Not really interested in trying the final version now that it's out. Seems like it would be okay for touchscreen devices.

That makes sense- the computer we had 2000 on was given to us by a friend of my mother's who ran her own business- I think it was one of her work computers. We still have it somewhere...

Both Mac & Windows have their own unique ways of sucking so just pick one that sucks the least for what you need to do on whatever device you has.

I dislike hating my life every time windows fires up and tells me something else is wrong because it forgot to eat its shredded the day before. Ever since I bought my mac, I have not ONCE had a problem with lost information, or slow/non responsive OS.

I guess Mac works for me lol

I have Mac shit, I have PC shit, I have Linux shit, I have windows shit, I have Android shit, I have other shit.......my point was that they all have a limitation of some sort and none of them are the end all for everything. Everyone can argue til the world ends about which is better or worse for what and it'll just end up at the same place...one may be better for some things and other will be better for other things and another will be better for something else. Anyone who acts like one or the other is the king of all shit is a fool. Nothing is impervious to fault or vulnerabilities.

I don't think Win8 is all that bad, just different and takes some getting used to. The Apps thing wasn't a terrible idea, IF you have a tablet. They're just trying to keep up with other markets, so can't really blame em there. If you have a standard PC/laptop, once you get to the desktop it's really not that bad. I've only had the pleasure of setting up one, but have 8 on a desktop in our office. To me, it was sort of like going from WinXP to Win7. Some aspects are the same and some are different, just gotta get used to it. But that's just my opinion. :anonymous:

Microsoft knew they couldnt release an updated windows 7, people would be pissed that they payed money for essentially the same product. They had to innovate. People are looking for the next big thing. Companies like Apple are completely revolutionizing a previously dull industry, Micro had to respond in a way that was crazy, and yeah its a PITA but with time I think it'll grow on the population

i'm not sure what you mean by a dull industry? The Pentium II was heralded as one of the greatest marketing achievements in history; nVidia,3DfX and ATI changed the way we play games; computers are being put together by the common man; and the internet morphs our world constantly. Even MS did their part with Windows 3.x and Windows 95.

Now, I think I understand what you meant, though: Apple has been known as a leader of innovation, and most everyone has been catching up.

(Before reading further, keep in mind that I'm not choosing any company to align with. I'm looking from a hypothetical standpoint based on historical trends)

However, I'm wondering if that era is cresting. Face it, Jobs was Apple. He retired briefly and Apple just about lost the farm (mid-90s).
He comes back, and what happens? iMac. OSX. iPods. He churns out success after success. Now, he's not coming back, and what has Apple done? Paraphrasing from their recent keynote (but not by much), "We have just released a new experience, something you could never do before: an iPad you can hold IN ONE HAND!" ...I'm not sure why this is innovative... Also, we see Android eating into the iPhone.

I'm not saying this is how it will happen, but there is a possibility that Apple will again lose focus, which opens the possibility for MS to step in to take over that position, provided they try to ride that edge. There's a lot of MS products that got squashed due to the monoliths of Office and Windows. If they can open those up to dynamism, they can reinvent themselves.

On the other hand, Microsoft could also keep to their draconian ways and/or go with their old motto, "let's try to make it do everything 10 different ways but not really concentrate on actually making it work". They really have the possibility at this point to make or break themselves.

This isn't something they can do at the moment, but given time they might be able to. After all, Apple was able to do it with the iPhone 5 ;)

I never seem to update all at once, only it bits and pieces...

My current home desktop box with a 25" screen was a Circuit City going out of business special, and came with Vista. My corporate servers stopped supporting Vista and the 32 bit world and I was forced into an upgrade, so W 8 it was...after a week or so, I am starting to get around.

    Not so bad...

I got a good deal on a the desktop box because of it...the desktop boxes are getting cheaper and better, while Notebooks are more portable, I dislike the keyboards in the difficulty in adding custom I/O boards for engineering applications.

MicroSloth has done nothing interesting since XP. They are always messing with it to match other platforms and bringing it up to run the coolest of applications from two years ago. They should go back and just make it easy and fun to use not chaotic and random.

Yep, Microshaft definitely dropped the ball--when they released Windoze XP. They made it too good which is why it still works fine (on older hardware) today. I tried to revert a newer Win 7 laptop back to XP and it was no fun at all. No one wants to write drivers for an old OS to fully function new hardware. As for W8? I have no interest at all. I'm fine with XP on one mach and 7 on the other. At least until MS finally stops supporting XP in 2014 anyway.
