CHanging "WS" AutoTrans Fluid in 2006

I know that many people say that this should be left to the dealer, but has anyone here done this with success? I have a 2006 Tacoma V6 with Auto Tranny that uses the WS fluid and would like to change it since it just turned 50,000. Any suggestions with be apreciated!

It's said you don't need to even think about it until 100,000 miles. What indications do you have that it needs to be changed now?

 

I work as a tech for toyota...we dont touch WS till around 100k. If you want to thats up to you. we have a special machine we put fluid into and it flushes and refills the trans with WS. Its up to you but i can assure you your not going to do any harm to your trans by waiting till 100k to change it.

 

hi, i feel like the engine is straining and i hear a winding sound, i'm thinking it could be the front diff. or auto trans 06' tacoma but they say the tranny should be good till 100k so what could it be never felt it or hear this noise b4.

 

I'm hoping you've been changing the fluid in the front end, rear end and x-fer case regularly. Assuming you have, check the fluid level in the transmission. Too much or slightly low fluid levels can make the transmission act up (there is a process for checking the transmission fluid level, not just a simple fill plug check).

no 65,000 miles only changed oil every 3,000 miles

 

How frequently have you been changing the oil in your differentials and x-fer case or have you ever changed them?

 

never changed any other fluids other then engine oil every 3,000 miles

 

Now might be a good time to change that

Change your fluids and check the fluid level in the transmission. The fluid change alone might solve the problem.

Ever changed the spark plugs? Not related, but something that is frequently forgotten.

 

my independent toyota shop flushed mine for $200. i had 70k miles on it..alot of it towing a trailer about.
