Calling all light force experts

Hey guys,

I just got 2 of the Lance 140 light force. I didnt know what to expect when I turned these on but I was surprised, the beams seem really narrow. I moved the mounting position and they overlap a little. Is light force more of a "spotlight" light? They are bright for sure and driving around some I cant complain too much. I guess I am posting this because I want to know which lens I should get to produce more of broad projection. I might get the blue or clear lens and I know they have 3 styles for dispersing the light...

My thought for lights up front was to have a very wide projection. Maybe I didnt do enough research before I bought them. Can I get new headlights for my 03' that will do this and then coupled with the new lens of the LF have a good wide field of view? My current headlights are getting too yellow and ugly especially after the new LF mounted up.

yeah I kinda laughed too when i fired em up. It seemed pretty lame turning em on first time, but they do good at projecting a nice narrow beam

 

Get yourself a set of the combo filters, it spreads the beam out considerably.

I just got the trail gear low profile mounted up. I kinda wanted lights closer but figured if i ever did want a third, room will be there in the middle

 

Man those little guys are bright as shit! Ok, those are commonly called 'pencils', 'driving' or 'spots', on LF's website there are descriptions of the different light patterns IIRC. Look at it this way, what exactly are you using them for and how does it fitt into the overall output, trucks high beams included. Think of it as painting, how much of the canvas and what parts do you want to fill up? I would aim them with the truck's high beams on, IMO those guys are good for the far-down-the-road in the center and your high beams will spread out to fill the rest. You could leave those two in the center like you have them and tweak the highbeams to just either side of the LF's and you should have shoulder to shoulder coverage. My four are all pretty narrow spots arranged to fan out some, but even with my ridiculous set up, they are still pretty tight down the middle, albeit wider than yours but still tight. My need for the lights is A: see waythefuckdowntheroad, and B: along with the highbeams, blast EVERYTHING with light beyond shoulder to shoulder which is the best hope i have of spotting deer eyes ahead of time.
Tweak em with the highbeams, maybe adding a single flood might help but beware, those 240's are HUGE! IMO would look funny, maybe a single 170 in a flood would like good.

Yeah good call, I think Ill turn the highs on and see if I can mount them to compliment the high beam. Im gonna look on LF website some more and see what I can come up with. For the meantime Im going to order the lens that widens the focus some.

4wheelparts is one of lightforces US distributors. they should have most of their parts, you jsut need to change out that front lens w/ the 3 clips and that is the beam pattern (based on my understanding)

I have a pair of the 170 strikers in the same beam/pencil/spot what ever you want to call it. They are focused the same way, i'd say for the time being aim them so that the "edges" of their main beams touch, almost like a sideways 8.

I am in the process of ordering new parts for mine, had them on an N-Fab on my 07 AC, got rear ended by a tahoe pushing me into the car infront of me, totalled the truck and all, only thing that happened to the 170's is one of the reflectors shattered. Since I have a 30" rigid upfront, i am ordering flood lenses and they are getting mounted on my backrack pointing back.

 

Just to echo what everyone else said, get a set of combo lenses and it will make a world of difference.

I'm running the 240's and I have both the clear spot, and the yellow combo lenses and I personally prefer the yellow combo, much wider pattern.

With that separation on the lights it will give you a good reach out, and I can easily light up a 2 lane road from treeline to treeline.

Yeah thats how mine are set up right now.
That sounds like it was a pretty nasty accident. The lightforce's held up damn good. I like them because they are tough and the outer lens can take the main beating but it sounds like yours will take more $ than one of those lenses to fix. I bet ur setup will be sweet with that 30'' rigid, they look awesome mounted up

Not sure about the 140's but i have the 170's and the lens can be rotated to change the beam pattern. They can be adjusted from a flood light all the way to a super pencil beam. If the 140's can be rotated try playing with that and see what happens

 

Thanks for the compliment, your super white looks soo bad ass, especially in the snow! The front ends on 2nd gens are awesome to say the least. Those 240's are pricey, did you get them for their size or light output? I wonder how much more noticable the light they put out compares to my 140's, I would hope alot!

Not the bulb, the round reflector. That whole assembly spins on the 170's

Do they even make a combo lens for the 140's? All I have seen on sites is spots and wides... Plenty of combos for the 170/240 lights. I would call lightforce but working nights for about another month so trying you guys first..

If they dont make em, I think i could have some fun with a third light up front and maybe doing spots on the outside with a wide lens in the middle. What do you guys think could work well along those lines? I know it comes down to what I personally want out of them, just pondering the possibilities. I might even go crazy and do crystal blue on outside and clear in middle... lol, maybe

Lastly, would anyone post up a pic of the crystal blues at night? or any colored ones for that matter? thanks for the help as always.
