I got inspired by an avid, but i wanted something in between an avid and a prerunner bar. so i went through a friend and got a guy he knew to fab my custom design. he didn't have a pipe bender, so he welded every piece together. i like how it looks against the truck though, stands out alot more.

While the aftermarket bumpers are made to have some give in a collision, how do you think a light bar and factory bumper would have fared?

I basically walked away, the driver who crossed the double yellow line and hit me was DOA.

I'm looking at getting one of these Road Armor bumpers so I can install a winch and lights but don't like the way it comes up on the corners. Does anyone know of a company that makes a steel bumper that looks almost like OEM that houses a winch like this one?

Yes, ARB's have to meet Australia's very strict requirements.

You don't want a solid bumper that won't give. Think back to your physics class and that whole kinetic energy formula: KE=1/2 MV^2 where V= d/t. You can't reduce the mass, distance is dependent on surface friction co-efficient/tires/etc but time you can change. Small increases in time lower the velocity and therefore the KE (we "increase" the time which lowers the energy, in this case to the human so it's a lower amount of force applied).

Newton's first law states that "A body in motion tends to stay in motion until acted upon by an outside force"- your body is moving at the same velocity as your car; just as it takes a large force to stop your car, it'll take a large force to stop your body (not as large though as your mass is lower than that of your vehicle but still enough to cause damage)- humans weren't designed to go very fast and bad things happen when we go fast then stop suddenly. This is the purpose of crumple zones- they increase time therefore lowering the velocity and thus the force acting on the body.

Thus concludes our physics lesson for the day. :)

Real bull bars do offer protection. Bump bars like aries and shittybuilt do not offer any protection.

I wouldn't even call them a bump bar.... they're just a way to mount lights.

I can honestly say that probably 85% of the trucks i see coming in the shop with bull bars on them have the bull bars pushed back into the bumpers, in turn causing more damage to the bumper, grille, and surrounding areas that would not have been damaged if the bull bar were not present.

I know, pure junk if you ask me. Never understood why anyone would put one on their truck. My brother wanted one for his tundra, it was all i could do not to smack him in the back of the head when he told me. He doesnt want one anymore.
