Yea they did, I had buddy a few years ago with a tundra that the spare tire flew out on the highway BUT it wasn't the tire carrier assembly it was the entire spare tire cross member that rusted out and let go!

Toyota is done coating frames, it was handjob anyway. My frame was done a year and half ago you would never know it......you can't just spray undercoating type material on rust and expect it to arrest and reverse cancer.

Do you have to be the original owner to get the frame replaced on your tacoma. Just bought a little reg cab and its rusted enough to worry me.

No you don't, it just needs to have been inspected and coated prior to 12/31/11

I ripped the one out of my 02, better clearance and it's easier to grab spare out of back along trail instead of lowering and in fastening.

What? I'll be sure to tell my bro that he doesn't know his job, he asked me the TSB no. So he could look it up in the computer. Oh he's been a Lexus mech for over 15 yrs. any issues are there to tell the techs what needs to be done, issues and parts needed.

Oh already replaced mine, crap. Your right coma, I worked for dealerships before opening my own garage, and the TSB does tell the mechanics what issues that vehicle has and what the corrections / action that needs to be done.
Everyone with these years go to the dealers and tell them you want it replaced! It could cause an accident, and who's going to have to pay if that happens? Don't take no for an answare.

Too much turkey. I didn't realize this has been a known issue. Alot of recalls are issued without a TSB until the problem is determined and a solution is submitted. Obviously this has been an ongoing issue and a recall has been announced. Don't tell your bro on me.

I just finished talking to my dealer, Bill Dube in NH and the letters are in the mail....

Dealers will be able to start replacing parts with the new "Campaign" starting mid-December....:)

Good thing is this saved both Dube and myself from trying to get re-imbursed by TOYOTA because they did have a "Fix"...a Sienna part does "work"...;)

    Ok,

They replaced the "parts" under the re-call BUT are doing it on "Need basis"....If your tire drops out like mine, top of the list , If you notice the holder rotting...CALL THEM...

If you suspect or just WANT TO...make an appointment and they will do what needs to be done..

No, the 1st letters have NOT come out yet and the 2nd letter should be to ALL owners covered by March ....

Personally, I would make my service writer/rep my best friend NOW...;)
They,TOYOTA are gearing up BUT just like with the re-frames , parts are slowing this process down....making freinds instead of enemies will go a LOOOOOOONg way ..

Just my 2 cents and ..NO PIX...12 degrees out....If we do not get snow saturday I will BUT for now...My spare is back under my bed ...where it should be..:p

Just had mine at the dealer on saturday and asked them to check into this recall....it was not listed yet and they told me usually the media gets the news of it first and the dealers find out about it last...they knew nothing of it and it was not listed yet...I'll have to keep checking for the recall....

    UPDATE,

Guess who got his "letter" in the mail today... :D

Basic language states that TOYOTA knows there is a "problem" BUT they need to get the proper "Parts" to dealers....

My 2 Cents...Call your dealer and ask to set -up an appointment to start the process...

Good luck and hopefully everyone has a good experience !!!

Recall is limited to certain states, here's a copy/paste paragraph from the Announcement.....

In addition to the District of Columbia, the 20 cold climate states are: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

Guess it also has to do with who uses more salt in the winter.

I'm going in for my spare tire recall this morning. Let you all know what they do for repair etc. I was in last week for brakes at the dealership and showed they had a fix for the problem. My parts came in this week.

Hope they're prepared for all the nasty frame rust recall fights they're going to get into over this, since surely they'll check the frame of any truck that comes in with a rusted spare tire mount.

"wait, you're telling me my frame is rusted, and you legally can't let me drive it home, and there was a recall on the frame, but because I missed a letter, that your company says you sent me, that said I need you to spray the frame down, I'm not eligible for a new frame anymore??!!!!???!!!!"
