And what do you do?

My truck turns 10 in March. Currently, it has 115k miles on it. I know there are quite a few years left but there will be a day that it gives up the ghost. My problem is, I look around and don't see much of anything to replace it with.

Does anyone else feel the same way?

by then I'll pass her down to my grandson, his generation will have the technology to rebuild her.

 

Mines 10 years and 145K. Run it till the wheels fall off. Maintenance and replacing stuff when needed.

 

Mines 5 years old with 100k already...engine will tick for a long time still

 

Mines about to turn 10 as well. Only 80k but she's begining to show her age, never seen road salt, so no rust, but as soon as one thing gets fixed, something else breaks.....

 

^As long as the frame and body are in good shape, the truck will always be cheaper to repair than to replace.

All the surviving compact trucks and SUVs have grown a bit. The upcoming Colorado is 74" wide. The current Xterra is 73" wide and weighs 400 lb more than a 2nd gen. Taco.

My 04 has 79k currently. Now if Toyota came out with some radical new design and maybe engine changes like a v8 I might be tempted, but right now with all the hit and miss issues the 2nd gens seem to have I'm sticking with my 04 for a few more years anyway. As stated its cheaper to fix anything than go with a whole new can of worms. If Toyota doesn't get their shit together and make better trucks like past models then they've probably lost me as a return customer anyway. Been buying them since 74 and they've always been the best built, most reliable trucks on the road, but that's being questioned these days. Just take a gander in the 2nd gen forum.

 

Huh? Mine just turned 88K, and NOTHING has broken! Well other than the side window "thingy" and that got replaced by the $10 deal here @ TW. Other than fresh fluids, tires (originals and loud) and Bilsteins 5100 series ( I prefer the handling over the factories), NOTHING has been replaced. During the spring I will replace ALL the coolant hoses/timing belt/radiator as preventive maintenance.

What has failed in yer truck, me curious?

 

Hell I'll replace the motor, tranny, etc before I ever give this truck up.

 

Occasionally I worry about this. I put 26K on the Tacoma in the past year... She's got 136K on it now... I'm actually looking for a beater car to help keep the mileage off.

Then I think about the '86 4Runner I had, put 330K on it and aside from normal maintenance, I only had to replace the alternator...

It's a Toyota, they're very reliable, will they last forever, no. But you can keep up with regular maintenance to ensure it will stay in good operating condition for as long as possible.

 

I wouldn't worry about the mileage. I have 285xxx on my 01, never had a single issue. The truck never gets babied, always has a load in the bed and often has a trailer hooked up. As long as you keep it looking good, these trucks will run a long time.

 

2000, 225,000km. You have no worries.
