5100's

so im trying to figure all this lift shit out since its not something im use to doing.....if i get the 5100's and set it to 1.75 or 2.0 on my prerunner, its going to shorten the life of the springs? because its not going to be the intended length for the stock front springs

 

Not necessarily shorting the life...it will just put added stress that it isn't designed to take..aka preloading. Wouldn't set it higher than 1.75, I know some on here do that with the stock spring..but don't expect a less harsh ride.

 

so is there away around it or no? preload will wear them out faster since they will be compressed more than they should

 

The only way around this is by getting longer Eibach coils, which leaves the 5100 setting at zero. Search for "5100" and "Eibach" together to get the correct part number.

Yep..either Eibach or OME...such as in my case i just ordered 5100's and 885's.(885's will give almost 3" while eibach like half that..i think)

 

From what I have bean told..

Eibach/5100 @0 = 1.6" of lift
Eibach/5100 @.85 = 2.5" or 2.25??

885/5100 @0 = 2.5" preloading not recommended
884/5100 @0 = 2.0" I think? has not been confirmed to me by anyone running this exact setup.

I think I'm going billies on stocks at 1.75 and If I decide to go higher than ill grab the eibach and go 2.5 either way has to come apart again.

Sonny at DSM told me he recommends that stock SPRINGS be used with the 5100's as they are valved for the stock spring rate. And the 5100's are made to be preloaded if needed thats why the option is there.
The consensus I get here is billies at 1.75 is a great ride a little stiffer but everyone says better handling than stock.. I shall see...

Hey man that's just what he told me... he said they won't recommend using ome's with the 5100's.. they were designed for factory springs. Every model of 5100 was designed with the factory spring rate in mind.. I'm no expert just taking info as I get it

 

It doesnt make sense, because he said to use stock shocks with 5100's. 5100's are shocks, how are you using both? And besides, OME's are made to fit 5100's as well as Eibachs. I had 5100's on stock sr5 coils set at 2.5 and hated the ride, stiff as hell. Ive been running 5100s at 0 with OME 885x's for a year now, and the ride is insanly better. Never had any problems

Just like toytec says they don't recommend OME with 5100's cause there Eibachs are made for them... All I am saying bud is that's what I was told.... I will fix the typo but thought people could figure it out...

People run OME all the time on these yes I know.. People run eibachs all the time.... All I was stating was what Sonny at DSM had expressed to me when I asked about running them on stock SPRINGS.

 

Nobodys mad, just stating it didnt make sense. Also thats the first time Ive ever heard anyone say not to use OME's or Eibachs. I know a lot of people here run preload stock coils on 5100's, but usually preloading a coil is not the best option. OME's and Eibachs are both designed to run 5100's on Tacomas, so I dont see why its not recommended

 

Same here man, but I have been Told from Toytec they don't recommend the OME... That may be because the Eibach is theirs I dunno..

Sonny at DSM can explain his thoughts I am sure if you call him..
Bottom line is.. It's fine to run any of these shocks including stock as tons of people are running stock,OME and Eibachs.. Abviously no preload would be best but again from what I read its fine... Maybe not 2.5 tho although people do it.

 

Is there a difference between 884 and 884x ?

 

any of the x's are prestressed coils. Meaning they are meant to be broken in already. From my understanding at least
