    Favorite pistol I have ever shot is my dads vintage .22 ruger blow back. Holy shit it's awesome. So accurate and fun to shoot. Tiny as well so easy to pack. Takes it bird hunting with him for jack rabbits.

    Ben and a gun scares the living shit out of me. If you want to stop a bear get a .41 magnum revolver or a .50 hand cannon. Personally I wouldn't trust a .45 to take care of a bear with less than 10-15 rounds. I'd take a .22 shoot someone in the knee and run like hell.

    you don't need to kill a bear to save your life. you just need to discourage the bear from coming at you. pepper spray is more effective.

    Yea I read it. I know firearms quite well and made useful suggestions to you.
    If you want a .44 go for it it's a great round and will stop medium sized game in their tracks. I stand my ground that if you want to stop a grizzly bear go bigger but .44 should be enough to stop a black bear.

    I'm not saying it's the best or first option for defending against a bear or any other predator... I agree that pepper spray is a good deterrent as is making noise and not running. As a last resort however, I'd want a fast large caliber round to defend myself with. F=m*v

    Ask Mark about shooting the .460 Magnum at Moab. .44 is expensive to shoot and has a hell of a kick. if you get one just practice often and practice safe handling. Mistakes happen and with a gun they can be nasty. Revolvers are a great first gun because they don't jam.
