Countdown to Doomsday - Dec 21, 2012 (Mayan calendar)

December 21, 2012 is regarded as the end-date of a 5,125-year-long cycle in the Mesoamerican long count calendar once used by the Mayans. Many also claim this date marks the end of this world.

Scenarios evoked for this end of the world include the arrival of the next solar maximum, a catastrophic interaction between Earth and a black hole, Earth's collision with a planet called "Nibiru," or the destruction of Earth caused by the gravitational effect of a rogue galactic alignment. Did I miss any?

Of course, governments, and many scientists, have flatly dismissed the likelihood of such scenarios, but believers and conspiracy theorists accuse such naysayers of deception, covering up evidence, and similar.

So, what do you think? Personally, I think at least one thing will certainly end on this date - all the December 21, 2012 predictions (one way or the other).

We have a guy at work who's convinced the world is going to end then. Kind of a weird cross between the "Rapture" and well---space aliens, he has yet to explain it in a way I can put it together.
I keep telling him to make sure he pays Decembers rent----just in case.

i feel like this is the 6th time in the past 3 years the world is supposed to end.

 

well some people believe that zombies or some kind of undead type event might happen. aka walking dead type stuff or if you have read the book world war z, which illustrates the events of a zombie apocalypse. just another theory out there

 

Mayans never accounted for leap years. if they are right the world should have ended 7 years ago or so.
