which brake controller?

reviving this thread so as not to make a different one. i am also looking into getting a brake controller. i would like to have one that can cover 2 axles and i can mount most anywhere. suggestions? also i have a first gen so no plug and play options

 

I hav a tenkosha primus iq. Looks neat, but havent used it yet (still building trailer).

Thing is expensive over $300. Truck is 2010 RC 4x4 with 4.88. Can panic stop 3500 pound trailer with out locking up any wheels. For the old timers works like the Kelsey Hayes of the 70;s, has a pressure sensor tied to the brakes. Normal tow with 97 Dodge diesel, it big enough to tow pretty much anything I am going to tow with out problem. Tacoma not big enough but brake controller makes all the difference. Not how weight you can pull, how fast can you stop it

 

After reading this thread today i went ahead and pulled the trigger on a "Tekonsha P3" I plan on hauling a 6x10-12 or a 7x10-12 Aluminum tandem axle enclosed trailer with sport bikes and gear.

 

I bought a Tekonsha P3 this past spring and it was an easy plug and play instal with the proprietary adapter harness. Its super easy to set up, adjust, and use, and it works great. This brake controller with my Firestone Ride-rite air bags with on board compressor and the factory tow package make towing my 20 foot travel trailer an enjoyable experience. The last thing I need to pick up is a nice weight distribution hitch. No regrets with the P3 controller, its a quality piece of equipment.

 

Hows the braking wile towing that long trailer? With the bigger tires and the trailer ill be getting possibly being 18ft bumper to hitch i'm thinking about putting some better brakes in... well once mine need them.

 

Its no problem as long as the trailer's brakes work good. Its really easy to adjust the amount of power going to the trailer's brakes on the fly, its just tapping buttons. You can also tap another button for the boost modes, which I don't find necessary with my setup. You can feel a noticeable difference in how much the trailer brakes are working by playing with the settings. Its not hard to find a setting you are comfortable with. Real user friendly operation.

 

What he said, have used them for years with no problems.
I have one for a backup thinking I would need it as all the other BC would fail in short order, but have never had a problem and need to use it.

I think I will add it to the wifes truck incase I want to tow with it.

 

Good to know, my controler just came in this past weekend, i just need to get my 7-pin connector fixed
