    If you can't keep this alcoholic off the roadways as is, how is house arrest reliably going to change that? Just as easy to drink while on house arrest, with drunken trips to the store when the alcohol runs low. There are even stories of large parties, with friends bringing kegs, while on house arrest. Clearly not the appropriate punishment. After eight DWI convictions (with likely many other driving incidents where he didn't get caught), a substantial prison sentence was far more appropriate.

    Life in prison is almost a waste of money on a DUI/alcoholic.

    Sentenced to mandatory lock down rehab for 30 days, after that, weekly trips to a PO, each trip he is required to ingest a pill that, if there is alcohol in his system either that day or for the next 7 days, he gets sick as fuck.

    All the people in Texas are going to be paying for his 3 meals a day and his medical bills from withdrawals etc, for the next 30 years.

    :eek: How so? For a large number, getting around with a cane is a royal pain in the ass, but absolutely necessary. Anything which increases stability for those less stable on their feet (the very elderly, those with handicaps, etc) should be welcomed. The larger footprint also works better on soft surfaces (gravel, dirt, snow, etc). Finally, this cane (which stands on it's own on flat surfaces) also provides one solution to the problem of where to put the cane when something to lean it against isn't available. Price is fairly typical as well (during a recent injury, requiring a cane for months, I paid far more for a "dress" cane).
