    I guess this is a LEO question/did I do the right thing/am I a dick thread...

Just got back from having dinner with a lady friend of mine in Bellingham, took I - 5 South all the way to Seattle. About halfway through the drive, in a 70 MPH zone, was behind a driver in what looked like a Dodge Neon doing about 50 in the high speed lane. WTF.

Decide to pull over to center lane and proceed with caution past him. He swerves to the right, almost side swiping me - then accelerates to about 75 MPH and moves to the commuter lane. I'm in WTF mode. Slow down and give him plenty of room. He's obviously f'd up/tired/whatever. Then he starts swerving, riding the yellow line...riding the white line...tailgating...etc.

Long story short after about a 10 minute internal debate with myself regarding being a NARC/asshole, I reported him to the state patrol. Plate #, vehicle and exact location.

Did I do the right thing? Does LEO really make an effort to respond to these calls?

It just pisses me off to no end that I drove the entire 2,400 miles of the Alaska Highway/Yukon/BC a few weeks ago and never once had any issues with other drivers. Seriously.

I know, I know - I should just clean the sand out of my vag.

Next time, call the police and sound urgent. Say he almost hit you, say he nearly hit a car with an entire family inside, say he is going off the road into the median.... Lie if you have to... Get the police there as soon as possible, because of he ends up driving into oncoming traffic and killing someone, you'll ultimately feel some guilt.

Believe me - I wanted to. But, there is a fine line between providing a solution to a problem and creating an even bigger one...

If he's already possibly f'ed up, who the hell knows what else he's capable of.

A few years ago I pulled a stunt like that and got in some trouble.

Next time. Well, hopefully there is not a next time...

I used my judgement and decided to report him. In my eyes his driving evidenced he was drunk.

I know. I went back and forth between maybe he's just tired or he's drunk.

Like I said, don't want this thread to sound like I'm a NARC.. I just don't have any tolerance for shit like this being pulled.

    The better coast
I have called the cops on two 9 year old kids before :anonymous: granted it was for work

But I have had a few friends get in pretty bad accidents because of drunk drivers, I don't think twice if I suspect someone is drunk on the road.

If its obvious to you that that person is a danger to you and others on the road, you are not an asshole.

    You did the right thing.

We make every effort that we possibly can to make sure that we contact all the DUI REDDI reports we get.

Call EVERY time you think someone is possibly under the influence or even just HUA (head up ass). If you see someone drifitng all over the road or just driving like and idiot, they are a danger to everyone around them. If the ARE under the influence, then it is a matter of time before they kill someone or themselves. Don't care too much if they kill themselves, but there is usually inocent family of the dumbass. We (the Police) do respond to "suspected drunk drivers" all the time, and most Cops like taking them off the road. So, thanks for calling the Police and DO NOT hesitate to call when you think something is wrong. It is our job to take drunks off the road!!

Absolutely do not come after the RP for false reporting. That's dumb. Next time, if you're questioning giving out info, just say you're not willing to sign and wish to remain anonymous.

All depends on how close the cop is to the BOLO vehicle. If its in his area, he gets there ASAP. I haul ass to DUI BOLO's in my area... CO statute has an exception that allows us to drive as necessary to catch someone that has committed a crime or we have reason to believe as committed a crime or is a causing a danger to other peoples lives.

If someone is near causing accidents, driving off the road, driving on the wrong side of the road, hitting things and keeps driving, we haul ass.

I like to stay behind these people and call out every move, every turn, any thing I can, also to make sure they don't fucking crash or hit someone. Then when the cops see my car, they pull in in front of me and stop the car and they have their eyewitness on scene.
