Gripe #1 about my 2006: KILL and MUTILATE the NINJA DESIGNER of the DIP SHIT that has an INVISIBLE reading for the oil level. How hard does it have to be to read an oil level from a steel rod? Can't they drill holes in it? Scruff it up LIKE AMERICAN DIP SHITS so it is easier to read the oil level?

And....WHY DO WE CONSTANTLY HAVE TO BE GIVING TOYOGA FREE SOLUTIONS TO THEIR PROBLEMS ON THIS BOARD? ALL EMPLOYEES OF TOYOGA SHOULD HAVE TO PAY BIG $$$$$ FOR THIS LEARNING TOOL!!!!!!!
    :infantry::crapstorm::help::rain::devil::bananadead::rant::smack:
FART ON YOU STUPID TOYOGA DIP SHIT DESIGNER MAKER!!!!! WHY DO WE NEED A FLASHLIGHT AND MAGNIFYING GLASS TO READ THE DIP SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! F&*$(&*#$(*@#$@#$*@#*&($*#@&$%(*@#$%#($@#$ ME~~~~~

Maybe get some $5 reading glasses at the Dollar Store. I am 59 and you aren't that far behind. Sorry, but they can't make a 1" wide dip stick for our old eyes. And it isn't just Toyota.

BTW, I have 20/20 vision uncorrected but I still need "cheaters" to read the small stuff. I have probably 10 pair of 1.50 cheaters around my shop so I can find a pair when I need them. Just one of those things Mother Nature does. Just go with the flow and consider the alternative.

If the truck has been sitting over night I can get one good reading on my scuffed up stick.

I wish it was my eyes! My eyes are fine, I can see it, but it doesn't tell me how much oil I have! You cannot find an "oil line" on the stupid thing! It's worse when you put new oil in, like I did today. Hasn't ANYONE else found it difficult to read this divining stick!!!

Comet man, you scuffed yours? How did you do it, with sand paper? I hear you......it has to sit overnight. Otherwise, when you pull the stick out it has oil ALL OVER IT, i.e., worthless as a measurement tool.

This is from a Subaru Forum!: "I know this is kinda lame but I finally couldn't stand the uselessness of our dipstick. Two things about it really annoyed me 1) the inability to get a consistent read off it and 2) the rough finish which always caught lint bits on the surface after wiping."

It's a freaking JAPANESE CONSPRIRACY!!!!!!! PAYBACK FOR TARAWA!!!!!

I didn't think anybody could design a worse reading dipstick than the ones in the 350Z. Then I bought a Tacoma and it's waayyyyy more difficult to make heads or tails as to how much oil is in the damn thing. I let it sit for 30 minutes to 1 hour+ on a garage floor and get nothing but a 2 foot long smear. Makes no diff how you remove it.

Only thing I can figure, is to try to find where the dipstick long smear gets wider and I guess that'd be your oil level. And that's not easy to decipher either.

    IT WORKED!!!!! YIPPPPPEEEE!!!!!!!

I rubbed a sandpaper sponge perpendicular to the dip shit and dulled it and put tiny little lines into it.....now it reads much easier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could actually tell with new oil where is was filled to!!!!! THERE IS A GOD IN HEAVEN AND HE LOVES ME!!!!!!!!!!!

You know, scuffing it up doesn't seem like the best idea to do. If you don't get that perfectly clean, and assuming nothing will come off from where you scuffed it... you're potentially introducing shaved metal into your engine, which could get caught up in the bearings leading to wear and failed bearings. Thanks, but no thanks for me.

Yes, I find it impossible to use on fresh oil myself. My eyesight sucks far but's 20/20 or so within 5-10 feet, and I can't tell what it's doing either. I'll see the majority of the oil where it should be, and some as far as 7" or so higher. Useless to say the least. But one you learn the exact amount to drop in... it works fine every time (I change my oil filter every time also).

Also yes, the G35/350Z was HORRIBLE, not because of reading it (was fine on that), but getting the damn thing in and out was almost impossible at night/low light. Seriously, I know the car's a Z but why does the dip stick have to be a "Z" also?

Oh no, no metal shavings....it really just takes the sheen off the metal and puts extremely tiny "channels" in the metal so the oil can be read easier. It works!!!!

You'd have to be pretty stupid to scuff it up and not wipe it off before sticking it back in the engine.

I'll be doing this when I get around to doing my next oil change.

Agreed, I don't suffer poor design very well because there really is no excuse for it. How many freaking years does it take for a car company to get something right, or fix a wrong?
