    Lets do a poll on new 08 Tacoma drivers who aren't that impressed to find the old part numbers for their rear springs.

    - has new springs
    - has old springs
    - don't know what I have but concerned
    - just don't care

    Why is Toyota still putting them on our new trucks?

    They are not bad or old. They are the "comfort" springs. For 80% of the people that buy Tacoma's, only own a truck for the status factor. They never intend to or are capable of utilizing the truck as, well, a truck.:rolleyes:

    Don't know if I have it or not, but I'm adding a shell which weighs close to 200 lbs, which will both preload the springs and decrease the overall carrying capacity. On top of that, I will then haul my hobby stuff which will add another 200-300 lbs, then another person (180lbs). So on hobby days I'll be weighing the truck down by at least 500lbs. Do I need the newer springs?

    I have an 2008 Toy Taco, TRD prerunner.

    Can anyone tell me which ones I have and if adding the above weight will be better with the TSB springs?

    Stick your head into the wheel well and read off the white numbers located on top of the springs:

    "COMFORT" (ie. weak)

    Left = 48220-04190
    Right = 48210-04550

    NEW (ie. might be able to carry stuff without dragging your a**)

    Left = 48220-04210
    Right = 48210-04570

    Let's also find out if it depends on manufacturing date.
    Please check your drivers side doorpost sticker.

    I'm 08/07 = August 2007 with "weak" springs on my shortbox TRD sport out of San Fran CA.

    I'm Jan. '08 and still have the three leaf total rear springs. Gulf Sates truck out of TX. Dealer said they would order the parts and then called back the same afternoon and said only ('05 to 08-28-07 Tacoma 4x4 & PreRunner except standard cab) were now included in the TSB spring replacement program.

    I just checked the #'s on top of the springs and there are more symbols than what the TSB is showing.

    The right rear leaf had (++ CHI 48210-04550 F-RH 311007) on it and the left rear leaf had (++ CHI 48220-04190 F-LH 021107) on it. This truck is a 1-08 manufacture date on a Gulf States truck for TX. These are the same #'s of the replaced springs with the addition of the extra symbols. I'm hoping ++ & F for thicker and firmer springs. Anybody have any feedback for the extra symbols. :confused:

    Hey that means I should be good to go on the TSB since my exact build date was 08-15-07. I'll call Toyota on Monday and quiz them.
    I'll also get underneath and check mine for those other markings like above.

    Oh I see what you mean... the revision to the TSB added 07's in late August. We'll I guess we can expect 08's to be added next fall as well. Maybe earlier if we press on.

    well, here's a new twist on the dealer B.S.
    had the appointment set up through the 800 number
    went through the whole - we can't duplicate your problem, 4 people in the back, drove it around,yada, yada , yada - the service person even told me that they are not aware of any issues OR TSB's on it -
    (did he forget, toyota set up the appointment?? )
    I was nice enough to offer to do a little investigating to find any additional information
    I had it in my pocket and decided that I was just going to walk away

    Sorry dude, you definitely have the old springs.

    NO company would keep the part number for a different spring. Bad things would happen if they got mixed-up. The symbols are just supplier or distributor marks.

    Bought in Sept. 08
    Ive read some reports where the new springs are not much better. Anyone experience this. I'm wondering if stock springs with a set of supersprings might be better.
    What do you think.

    :confused: How did you manage that??

    The new springs are a lot better. Three weeks and haven't bottomed-out yet. The old ones where hitting bumpstops routinely. Mine is DCLB, it was hurting with the three-leafs.

    (now to put on this Hellwig sway bar sitting in my garage)...

    I have the same part numbers on my '08. It was built 10/2007.

    I don't use my truck as much as many of you do as far as hauling however, I'd like to know I could put my 800lb motorcycle in the bed if I ever needed to.

    I kinda like the air bag option.

    TSB x 2 because first TSB leaf springs broke
    I visited the Toyota dealer today to look at the 08's, all of them had 3 leaf springs, NONE of them were the updated ones. The DC non-trd's looked saggy already.

    I just wonder how long before the 4-leaf pak begins to sag.
