Pre Runner?

OK.......a really dumb question but I really do not understand what the differance is between a double cab tacoma and a double cab pre runner.Can someone clear this up for me?Thanks.

 

Prerunners are 2wd

 

2wd and 4wd

 

Prerunner is 2wd, but it has the same suspension as the 4wd.

The "other" 2wd is the 5-lug. Different suspension, axle, hubs, brakes, spindles, etc....
No suspension parts are compatible (unless you count the ability to use 4wd rear springs on the 5-lug to lower it an inch).

 

I believe the non-Prerunner can also be referred to as the Tacoma Base, right?

Those are the three "types"

 

No, there are various trim package available, depending on the configuration selected.
5-lug is available in RC and AC, and DC (short bed only).

In my market area (SoCal)
5-Lug is limited to 2.7, no 6 cylinder.
5-Lug RC is available only as base model.
5-Lug AC is available with Convenience Package or SR5
5-Lug DC is available with Convenience Package only.

 

X-Runner is a performance/cosmetic package for the 5-Lug Access Cab V6.

There's 2wd, X-Runner, Prerunner, and 4wd.
Those are the basic styles.

Within each of those styles are various trim levels... base, SR5, TRD Sport, and TRD Offroad.

 

BTW: Online configurator is not letting me select an X-Runner option.
Selecting V6 in the 2wd forces me into a Prerunner.

 

the x runner is a limited production run. 3500 or so.

Whats the differance between the Prerunner base model and the SR5 besides the body colored bumper

 

it used to be the addition of power doorlocks and windos. backup camera, etc.

i heard that the new base models are also powered interiors, but i have nothing to back that up

 

SR5 is a convenience package.

The only thing on that list my 2010 SR5 doesn't have is the outside temp guage.

 

Don't worry, those who buy the 2013 won't have one by 2015 either

 

my BASE 4x4 v6 AC came with...

i have to say i prefer the black trim on light trucks. esp the bumpers... plastic sucks but looks good. and i love the flat black subdued interior trim.

i added the stuff in green... total for all the stuff in green i added later was around $600

truck also has a tow pack and conv pack. point being... just cause a truck is a base, doesnt necessarily mean its stripped!

i bought my truck 'used' with 1,100 miles on it. no clue why someone would put so many options on a base model and not just check the sport or SR5 box?

 

Mine's got dual sun visors, one with a mirror, and two windows that go up and down when I rotate a handle that jabs me in the leg on corners.
