Last weekend I found out I had a misfire at cylinder #5. Tonight I was up to the task of finding out what was causing this.

Because I was going to check the coils, I also decided to replace all my spark plugs since I was going to play there.

Here's the beginning of the truth: First thing I could see was that the coil at #5 had a visible crack on top of it. No matter what, this one must be replaced, but I do not have a part in hand. No big deal, I can get one tomorrow and they keep going with the spark plugs replacement.

I then attempted to remove the plug at #5, but I quickly noticed my socket could not grab the plug. I used my work light to see in the cylinder, it revealed a foreign object sitting at that location.

After a quick removal of said object, I finally removed the plug. Now what ?!?

Re-assembling the pieces together revealed that the metal contained in the foreign object caused the plug to be shorted against the engine block, compromising the good working of the coil. Also, the silicon boot suffered from the stress. Tomorrow I will call the dealership, as my truck is still covered by the warranty, and see if they can give me a new coil and make it a closed case. I already informed them on Monday about the misfire, and told them I was going to do the plugs since they're not covered and keep them updated about the outcome. Guess they won't be able to explain this one :p.

Time to wrap up the story, Replaced all 6 plugs, putted some dielectric grease and everything is back together. I am now waiting for a new coil to show up.

Looks like somebody dropped something in on the plug and made it short out.....

Was the dealer the last one to change out the plugs?

Just got back from the dealership. Was attempting to get the steering wheel rattle taken care of. Since it only happen on rough and dirt roads, the dealership couldn't repproduce the problem, so they wouldn't fix anything. I'm trying one more dealership tomorrow.

Thanks guys! This has been a work in progress for several years. It's full custom from the ground up using cylinder and slide ignition components and wilson combat parts. This last stuff I had done was the front strap checkering, bobtail conversion, and the flat dark earth/black ceracoat finish.

Here is how it was when I first had it built:

And here is how it sits now:

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
Yeah I'm nervous about breaking something too. I need to get in there to find loose wire or connector causing the lighted climate control knobs to flicker sometimes.
Also considering the lighted 4x4 switch mod.
