one of the signs i saw at the regular TM
"It's not embarrassing to not finish the Tough Mudder. It is embarrassing to sign up for a 3 mile mud run"

WTM is not meant to be easy. I don't think I would be able to pull it off myself.

I made it up without a problem but struggled to get another guy up. I'm amazed that people at this event had issues with this obstacle. Me an another mudder had to pull a guy's dead weight up to the top: Berlin Walls
They moved the supports out slightly to make it harder to use them to climb over. I still managed but it took a bit. Island Hopping
First time trying this obstacle. They got a little farther apart towards the end. Drag King
I enjoyed this one. I tend to do a lot of squats and have a short running stride so this was an easy obstacle for me. It was a pleasant way to warm up after the Underwater Tunnels in the freezing cold. "Do the pose!"

    :p

Let me know if any of those are not viewable and I'll try to come up with another solution.

    videos worked for me.

after doing a regular tough mudder, it takes somebody that is clinically insane to do WTM. getting 2 laps in is farther than i think i would have made it.

Permissions have all been set to public so the video links below should finally be working. :)

Thanks for the confirmation on that one. I was hoping that would do the trick!

You'd be surprised how far you can go with the right motivation and nutrition. Try a second or third TM and you'll shock yourself with how much easier each one becomes. The body adapts pretty quickly to the abuse.

This year I believe 1300 were registered and approximately 1150 started.

It was the smallest group I've ever seen at a TM event, and a hell of a contrast to the Tri-State Mudder at the same location a month earlier. That one had 24,000 people in a single day!

I signed up today for the tri-state on Oct. 11, 2014. I am approximately 50-70 pounds overweight. 325 days until the event. Just thought I would share. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Anyone accomplish a similar feat? Specifically, I am 5'10" and 235 lbs. on the scale at work with steel toe work boots on. I started walking in the mornings. I am up to 4 miles. I will eventually turn the walks into jogs then runs.

Also, I can't swim. So no walk the plank unless I get some lessons early next year.

From somebody who doesn't train for this, get into shape to run a lot. Also get some massive hand and arm strength. The way they accomplish the 10-12 mile courses is with a lot of back and forth in an area. If you can have your body trained for running distances, you will be in great shape. The hand/arm strength is for helping to haul yourself around. The monkey bars and monkey rings can be a challenge. Climbing over walls means pulling yourself up to get over the top.

In Seattle this year, the monkey rings were slick. I can normally hang on without issue, but on the third of about 5 rings across, my grip wasn't hard enough. On the monkey bars, you start by going uphill on them which takes extra effort. After I hit the peak this year, and started going back downhill, I was skipping bars, and right before I could get my feet planted on the far deck, I lost my grip.

As I was approaching the last few obstacles this year, I passed a guy who was probably 300+ lbs and still walking along. Remember that if you need help from others, ask for it. If others ask you for help, then give it.

Good luck man! Look for a spartan sprint next year, they are only around 4 miles and will be a good first event to get your blood flowing and get you hooked on the sport.

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm 43 years old and out of shape. So, I set a goal.

Hell yea. Gotta start somewhere. My first spartan was last may and I ran it with two older guys, one was 36 and the other 38 I think, neither in that great of shape but they both had a blast!
