I move to Oahu on January 4th!!! I can't wait. I've been wanting to get back to a place that has a lot of hiking for quite a while now.

    Tent with rainfly?

Easy up with tarp for cooking/hanging out?

If it's real windy a tarp makes a great lean to that if properly anchored will hold well?

That day the easy ups were mostly destroyed.

I agree, although California doesn't get the same winter as everyone else. A dude on a hammock forum goes camping in 5 below weather for extended stays. That just blows my mind. Around 30's I'm freezing my ass off.

My last outing before it got a little cold out here. Hoping to do another trip before the end of the year.

Do you guys use hammocks much at all? I see mostly tent setups on here.

Ive been out in single digits before. As long as you dress properly it is nice! It did suck trying to keep water from freezing if we went out for day hikes and if you needed to boil water the next morning you had to pour it in the boiling pot before you went to bed so it didnt freeze in your nalgean. Lol i love the 20-40 degree temps though. Thats the best. Now that im moving to FL though, im kinda bummed i wont have those temps to camp in.

As to your hammock question, i used to have 2 of them but sold both because i wasnt a big fan of them. I have a messed up back so i have found the tent and pad to be the best in comfort for me.

Good tip someone gave me here was to keep a few waters in your bag overnight. I also keep water in an empty cooler in the truck, never had them. Best part about winter camping is there's hardly anyone there.
