I came in as A1C w/ my degree. My sponsor at the shop thinks I might be able to get out of the dorms sooner than normally being 28. I'll be the oldest Airman and older than some of the NCO's in the shop hah. My stuff is in storage now, I figured I'd put it back in storage out there. I'll make some $$$ by moving it.

I'll be taking leave in Louisiana, where my parents are. If I wanted to get anything of mine out of storage I'd have to drive up to NC anyway. TMO said the govt would ship it for free but someone would have to be there to take everything out of storage and unpack it. I figure if I'm gonna be there I might as well do it myself and max my weight limit and make some $$$ in the process.

keep your paperwork packet in a safe place.

i just got billed by DFAS for my travel pay from my DITY move in 2010. I tossed my paperwork after a year. They said there was no record of my move and that i was given travel pay in error. Long story short i had to pay back the entire amount because i couldn't produce my paperwork. Dont make my same mistake, file that crap away

You are authorized one Home Of Record Dity Move in your carrer. So if you don't do it now, you can always do it later when ever you want. Don't do what one idiot in my unit done. He file three seperate HOR Dity moves and got kicked out of the Air Force for stealing/fraud.

For one TMO will give you some free days to make your DITY move which should more than cover your necessary move time so just plan your leave time in conjunction with that. And as long as you don't go wild the cost will mostly be cover with your advanced funds as well
