Rear Suspension Help!

Hey guys so I have just realized that my driver side stock middle leaf spring has completed broke. Seems to have just cracked in half and now the middle leaf is resting on the axle and making a really annoying noise when going over bumps. I called Toyota today and they told me it would be $700 just to replace that rear spring back to stock. He also told me of a local suspension shop that would replace that middle spring for like $350. My question to all of you is... what are my options? Should I just do the $350 and hope that the passenger side spring doesn't go? Or is there any other option at around that same price where I can maybe upgrade my leaf springs? I am not really interested in a lift but I would be interested in a beefier spring set... is there anything like that for say $400? I think me and a buddy could do the install just don't know what to look for. Thanks for any help. I am new to the site so any help would be awesome!

 

$700 sound really steep for useless toyota leaf pack. I know there are cheaper and better aftermarket options out there even without lift. I remember reading threads on this here on TW, just can rememeber what brands etc. Just wait a bit and someone more knowlegeable on this subject will point you the right direction.

Also take a look in marketplace for a used leaf pack or TSB pack from someone who installed a lift...would be the cheapest fix I guess. I know I said they are garbage, but for the right price it will do.

 

They can build you anything you want. They have an HD set specifically for the Tacomas that will run you $480.

 

look in the classified of this site and find a used pack..you can get both rears for cheap.

 

DO NOT HAVE TOYOTA SELL YOU SPRINGS! Wheeler Offroad has OME springs for around $400 that are far better than stock. OME stands for Old Man Emu. Put the leafs in your self its not that hard. You will have way better than stock and saved money. I could install new leafs on your truck in 3 hours tops. You may have to get new shocks with ome leafs so you are looking at maybe $600 with new Bilstein 5100 shocks. I sure you are going to get alot of similar advice.

What year is the truck and what state do you live in? I work for beer. 12 pack would be my price for the leaf install.

Unfortunately I live in mass that sounds like a hell of a deal! I have no problem spending $600 total for the shocks and leafs... what leafs exactly are the ones i would need?

 

my overall goal pretty much is to resolve the issue for as little as possible. Again one of my leafs broke so I am going to have to replace that soon... I am not really interested in a lift at the moment but I would like to upgrade both sides leafs if that is possible for a reasonable price

 

Another question If i go ahead and buy the OME 2.75" springs does that mean I have to lift the front as well which would mean added costs?

Yes. Give Wheeler's a call and they can help you with whatever you are looking for. They have a lot of stock height options that won't give you lift.

 

Why not go with the wheeler's replacement leaf set: At $500 it's probably the cheapest new option you'll find. Or for a little more I'd say the Alcan's would be the next best option, neither of those will lift you at all and both should last you a long time, much better than stock toyota.

 

I think I am going to go with the HD wheelers off road stock height ones that are linked above... thanks a lot guys for you help. I think Im gonna go ahead and get the shocks as well.

 

Your right the OME would be a little bit of a lift. The other suggestions given would probably be a better course of action. Call wheelers they have good customer service and can get you set up with somthing that is going to be better and cheaper than stock.
