    Yeah.
Both of those are way too small for trail riding, they may be OK for road riding. Minimum you should look for is 400 lumens, and even that would be scary on a fast, technical trail. The link I posted was for a 1800 lumen Cree XML T6 light for $32.59, free shipping. Check it out, way better value and they really work well. Just don't shine it in your buddy's eyes.

Thanks for the input guys :) I think I know what I'm going to do, but I thought it'd be fun to hear some different ideas.

Now for the wait for Canfield Bros. to build more Yelli Screamies! I'll gather parts all winter and do a spring build when they put out a new run of frames. I'll be posting in here for sure as it goes together ;) seems like forever from now..... It better snow soon to get my mind off of it!

    is this the one?

I think my light last night was less than 200lum... :bananadead: luckily I had three guys in front of me so I could kind of see what was up ahead. Its not a really fast trail but it does has lots of tight turns and is pretty technical.

With that light and a decent one on my bars I should be good to go?

I've done a fair share of night riding back in my racing days. I loved having a light on my helmet and a light on my bars. One to light up where the bike was going and one to look where I was looking :)

If you guys want to try something really fun, get together a 4 man team, or a buddy and do a 24 hour race! Most fun I've had on a bike, ever. I did the 24 hours of 9 mile (Wausau24.com) in Wisconsin twice, once as a duo and once as a four man. The year I did the duo we took 3rd! I think each of us had eight 15 mile loops in in the 24 hours. One big ass party that happens to be a race too!

part of that was a joke, but if your eyes had adjusted to the light from the guys in front of you and then that was gone it will seem really dark (On full moons you can ride with no lights as long as there aren't a lot of trees to block moonlight). It's all about what you're comfortable with. There's no right or wrong, unless you are riding with others, then it's a good idea to be equally equipped.

gotcha. Yea I lost my night vision a few times on switchback when the front guys would be heading towards me and blind me. We did have a full moon last night but it was still low on the horizon when we were out and the trail is almost 100% covered by trees.

Just ordered the 1800 lumen headlamp.

    back to bone stock.
night rides are the funnest. the easiest trails you are so familiar with become technical and mysterious.

i used to do it all the time in El Paso during the summer. too hot to ride in the daytime. now? i want to revisit it, just because the sun beats me home.

i want a Zebra headlamp. the 600's are super bright, use a rechargable battery. not to expensive. this lamp can do double duty as a hunting light.

i think a good headlamp and one on the handlebars in tandom is key. safety glasses for sure. clear ones.

^ good point on the clear glasses. Branches/debris from the trail come from nowhere at night!

Yup, makes it a totally new trail. And then doing it backwards really messes with you!

Clear glasses will be a must next time as my eyes were full of dust from the other riders in front of me.

    Yeah.
That one looks like the same light, but the one at the link I posted has a bigger battery pack that has a longer cable, more like a 4-cell rechargeable pack. You probably don't want to carry it on your head. My buddy did that and it made his neck really sore.

The one above looks like it has 2 batteries that go on the back of your head, so I am not sure if it would last as long. If you ordered that one, do a test on battery time before you go out so you know what to expect.

Been running those 1800 lumen cree lights for awhile now. They are great and for the price nothing can touch them. I bought 3 of them. I ride with one on the bars and one on the helment and have a spare to drag someone else along that doesn't have lights or just use one on the bars and bring 2 other people. Whole different world riding trails at night. Love it. Think about using 2 3 watt halogens running on aa batteries. Sucked ass compared to these but that's all there was back in the early 90s. Then nightsun came along with a dual 7/20 watt set and then 10/20 set with battery in the water cages. Those ran 250 and 300.00 a set. these 33.00 lights kick their ass all over the place in output and battery life.

Yea I found the one you were talking about and ordered one. I also ordered a handlebar mount for a flashlight. Ill be putting a surefire light in that. I should be good to go now

I might have to order another headlamp depending on how much I like it. 1800 lumens for $32 is a steal!
