I like how they called it a "leak" sounds like just something to spread panic and an internet war. I was trying to find its source and validity but its just shrouded in a bunch of garbage and political tape. I'll keep shooting anyways. try and take it away....

Do the new colts still have the odd size takedown pins?

also, which of these would you get and why?
    colt m4 carbine-$1300
    bushmaster xt15 ORC -$870
    m&p 15 optics ready- $930
    m&p 15 sport -$650

rifle will be used as a plinker/hunting rifle (varmints, for deer i would put a 6.8 upper on) and if theres that many bad guys, home defense
    thanks.

    stock, for now

How often are you going to use it? I have the m&p sport..It looks great sitting in the safe, does the same thing the colt will do, for half price. Just not made for super long distance shooting.

If you want a weapon to show you have money, get the colt. If you have money to buy a weapon to shoot paper, buy the smith.

At most 500 rounds a month.

I like the m&p sport but dads leaning towards the colt, and I'm not sure why.

But if we got the m&p optics ready that would be a decent chunk of change for a red dot and buis.

    I don't want to show I have money because I don't.

There's a lot of options for 1300 dollars...
I got a lmt lower and daniel defense upper for cheaper than that. If you shop around you can find colts for cheaper.

i dont think dad wants to assemble it. and im not sure why.

those are what are on sale at turners right now.
What i'm mainly interested in is the colt, IMO your paying for the name and you could get a RRA or the bushmaster or the M&P, for cheaper and have the extra money to put towards optics and ammo, an i wrong in my reasoning?

And whether or not they AE smart enough to know for sure what piles they came from. People tend to think that things like lowers that come from the same forge is someone that matters. It doesn't. But as long as they think that they are unlikely to care either.

People misuse that term, "paying for a name". Yes, you are paying for a name, and everything that goes with that name, such as proper materials, produced to the correct dimensions, tested and assembled correctly.

Or you can buy the allegedly "as good as". But a colt 6920 is $1100 right now at Walmart. It's hard to beat that, in terms of price AND quality.

Why do you want the pic rail? What are you attaching?

IMO a railed handguard that stops at the front sight isn't worth the cost and time to add, even less so if you're not going to free-float. The military uses non-float, 7.0 handguards but that is because they are mounting lights and lasers, and then have to add a vfg just to find room for their hand. If you're not dealing with an issued gun, there's no reason to follow their example.

If you're just adding a light, there are mounts from companies like Midwest Industries that attach to the front sight and work great, save weight, and are inexpensive, and don't take up the space that your support hand needs.

If you absolutely positively must have a full-rail handguard, go free float, and get the longest you can and still install it easily in case you don't like it. This is my pick.
    http://www.centurionarms.net/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=177

And since someone is sure to come along with the typical nonsense about free-floating being for precision guns, that's not what we're talking about here. When shooting in a dynamic environment as the AR is intended, you will find yourself wanting to rest some portion of the forend on various objects to make use of cover, steady yourself to take a shot, etc. when you do that with the barrel, or a handguard attached to the barrel, you affect your point of impact downrange. I shoot in a steel match once a month where we shoot at 50 yards and I watch people every month lean on their barrel or non free-float handguard and miss. There are ways to mitigate that, but it makes no sense to spend $100-300 and still have to mitigate the issue when you could have free-floated and gotten additional functionality out of your purchase.
