I picked up some clearance with mine but that wasn't the only reasons for getting it. I did not want to do what you did to your stock one. The stock receiver does not protect the corners as you found out. Another reason for a rear bumper is to protect the rear quarter panels

I'm sure glad I had it at Moab. Hit a couple of times real hard. Once on Top of the World, hard enough to rattle my fillings.

Oh yeah? I guess my Taco could barely tow itself, well at least based on the rated towing capacity. I doubt towing would be an issue with the regear. Stopping would be the problem I'll bet, or handling.

I think, not positive, but I think I could get my dad to let me take his GMC Sierra down. The down side to that is that it is a '97 with like 190,000 on it and isn't running too well lately, so there is a slight possibility that I could be unloading the Taco just to tow that thing back... haha

Besides finding a tow rig doesn't help you any there, just me, unless we came up with a multi car hauler. haha Then we would need an extra big dedicated rig. haha


Also on a side note. I just made a deal with my wife to get a rear bumper. I can get the rear bumper if I don't do anymore mods until after I graduate... Kind of steep, but it is probably a good idea since her savings are going to start dwindling soon cuz grad school is so damn expensive and I will be supporting her solely since she is way too swamped in PT school to be able to work a job. 2ndly she stresses so much about that above fact that I think she would possibly divorce me or at least be pretty pissed at me if I spent much more money on the Taco anyway. And 3rdly, I have a lift, 33's, 4.88's, front and rear lockers, will have front and rear bumpers and some skids. Yes there are more mods to do, but really this will be a pretty capable rig, so I think I can get by for a few more years with it. And really she did come first and rigs are easily replaceable, people aren't so much...

 

We were referring to HC rear bumpers, not just rear bumpers.

Make the deal the bumper and then nothing for like 6 months. Then set a 6 month budget

Yeah, haha, what Monte said. My girl likes to wheel so she buys me stuff for my truck so we can go more places more comfortably!

I pulled a 57' Chevy Bel-Air and a 00' Mustang GT 5.0 on a two car hauler with the taco and had no problems. Didnt even hit the guy in the Camaro in front of me who slammed on his brakes to avoid a dog.

 

My dad hauled way to much wood once. Two big ass tree trucks with not much issue. I'm sure with the supercharger it would be less.

Well I was thinking about it and really there isn't too much more I can do to it that isn't a major change, like a SAS or LT, rack and RTT.

I don't see any point in changing my current suspension until I go to LT or SAS, RTT is more of a luxury so it can wait. Don't really need any lights, although some rock lights would be cool, but they are cheap and my bday is in a week and then christmas so maybe I can get some then. 35's/36's is the only other thing I can thing of that would be nice, but my 33's are like new so I can't justify getting some good ones, and I haven't had much luck finding a decent price on used tires that aren't bald.

 

Yeah it probably would be less. I told my step dad that I thought it was too much, he told me not to be a pussy so I hauled them haha. And no, its the girl that I was dating before that girl haha!

Was the wood in the bed or on the trailer?

Like I said I don't doubt the Tacoma could pull it. The question is how safe would it be to pull it for 700 miles. haha

Question though for you all... Do you think the weather/roads will be good tuesday and wednesday? The wife and I will be driving through Wyo and Id those 2 days (and then a week later back home).

Yeah and I will just have to be responsible or just hope this has kind of blown off/settled by then and work out another deal 2nd job maybe? haha Money is really the only issue here. She is just trying to be fiscally responsible for the future. She is not the typically girl and is unbelievably frugal really. Has saved pretty much all of her pennies to go to college since she was very little and busted her ass so much so in High school (4.0 gpa and valedictorian) and as an undergrad (over a 3.9 gpa on her bachelors) that her undergrad was completely paid for in scholarships and financial aid. There are virtually no scholarships for grad school though and Obama recently changed how financial aid works for grad students and they are kind of fucked there now... So really I can't blame her. I tell her all the time she is smarter than me, cuz she is And as one of my college professors told us all the time, life is much easier when you spouse is smarter than you and I totally agree

 

Weather has been great in WY. Granted it can change in minutes..

 

I haven't, but I check the weather and it seemed ok. We are taking the wife's 2011 Grand Cherokee though, so I still have a 4x4 if needed.

True... sounds like anywhere out west. Let's hope it stays alright the whole time. The wife is 5 months along, so we will be stopping every few hours for her... I may get some pictures along the way.
