i've owned both - currently owning the access cab. i'd never buy and access cab again. the dc was far more convenient accross the board - (and holds MUCH more in the back than the access cab - not even close) - and it's far easier to access your gear, etc. using the back doors. having a dc is the best of all the worlds.

and regarding the transmission... it's 2012, i don't need to do the shifting for my truck, i'll let it do it. it's not a sports car... now that i get having a manual.

I looked at both when I bought my 2012. Other than the DC looking SO much better in my opinion, the access for me was just wasted space. Little tiny jump seats that my 8 year old was squeezed into and no other real use other than crap storage. If you're paying that much for a truck, might as well get all the extras and comfort of the DC!

Plus those suicide doors are terrible. My DC has as much back seat room as any SUV that I've owned.

At this point in life, a DC was what I wanted. My last two Tacomas were AC/manual and not interested in this any longer. There is additional room for family and friends and just as versatile for storage when no one else is there.

I bought a Double Cab first so I have more room for friends/family when we go out.

I'm saving up to buy an access cab next so I can build a wall of sub woofers since I can't fit a huge stereo behind the seats of my Double Cab.

Actually, I brought up the Army's purchase decision. Your military service is/was irrelevant. I'd still like to see you suggest to the soldiers in Afghanistan, who drive double-cabs (Tacomas, Humvees, etc), they wear their testicles on the inside.

No, it's just if we escalate the insults any beyond yours, we'd likely be thrown off this forum. To avoid that, I decided to stop.

Had a double cab, just me myself and I, was a total waste of space but nice, hated the little bed when it came to hauling my bikes around to ride, traded for my 4wd access cab, when its just you, so much better. They both look good in their own aspects. Its a taco regardless, just what you need or dont need. But you do notice a crap ton more double cabs out there than the access cabs.

DC's look like Ford Explorer Sportraks to me.I bought a pickup,if I wanted an SUV I'd be in a 4Runner.I like the suicide doors, when you open them the back of the cab is right there,in a double cab you'd have to walk around the door or over the seats. This is why you can't get a v-6 in an RC,Toyota leaves them stripped for the entry level buyer and makes their money off of DC's.

    this isn't a jab at ACs, just a statement/gues......

my theorey on the higher numbers of DCs vs ACs, is that a double cab can pull a trailer, but there is no way to increase passenger space on an AC.

Last year I went to Wyoming from Atlanta with my buddy in his Taco AC with a scoop on the hood. 1,600 miles one way. The scoop sucks especially when going over very steep dirt roads. It just gets in the way. As for his access cab there just wasn't enough room for our "STUFF".

That made me buy a V6 automatic DC 4X4 without the scoop and I love it EXCEPT the gas milage which sucks.

PS: Note the Avid Light Bar has an extra bar at the bottom middle for more protection while driving around the farm.

Double cab was my pick for practicality. While I didn't need all the seats when I bought it, I knew I would in no time.

Sure enough, while I didn't have any children at the time or any on the way when I bought my truck, my wife and I are expecting our first (unplanned ;)) in the Spring!

I try to expect the unexpected :)

you need some dust shields for the front wheels... so they dont turn black like that every 500 miles.

Because they are awesome. I personally think the DB look better and I just like having the extra space even though I dont have any kids.

I agree, I just ordered a 2013 Access Cab. I went back and forth, the extra cost or space wasn't the issue. The Access Cab looks more like a traditional Toyota pick up to me, where as the Double cab looks like and SUV with a lil pick up bed attached.

But I don't have kids, if i did I'd have to have gotten a DC.
