I really doubt the world will end on Dec. 21st.

And Saint Nicholas wasn't born on Dec. 25th. But then again, neither was Jesus Christ by most accounts. However, Dec. 25th is the day American Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus and it's the date of the federal holiday.

Saint Nicholas day falls on Dec. 6th, and is celebrated by many Europeans.

Santa Claus...or Sinterklass, has ties to the date but only loosley tied to the Christian tradition. Although St Nick was a Christian man.

Very interesting history how the traditions tied together in both secular and faith based beliefs became what is widely celebrated as Christmas. Even many Americn Jews celebrate the day.

"It's a most wonderful time of year"

I prepped for my inspection today, by changing my front brakes. My inspection is up this month, but I'm gonna wait till past the 21st, cause I would be pissed if I paid for inspection, and then the world ends. F that.

My thing about prepping (after watching all seasons of the show)... is that they all assume that in event of disaster of some kind they will be fine and dandy in their own little bubble when in fact that is not anywhere near the truth.

In a nuclear war it is fairly safe to say that 3/4 of earth population will be wiped out either in initial conflict or within a couple of months when 10 year nuclear winter comes about shortly thereafter.

If a super volcano erupts, crops will fail and yes I guess you can survive on reserves of stocked up food but heavy ash will fall like snow and breathing outside will likely kill anyone so good luck not getting serious case of cabin fever.

But as corny and ridiculous as that show is I think it is very evident that in an event of natural disaster or war... people go batsh*t crazy and any quality of life goes out the door.

Would I like to prep? Yes. Can I afford to prep? No.

I figure in a survival type situation I would be most interested in having ability to quickly move (hence no point in prepping per se) and not be a target for robbery because I have stuff that other people need. Just imagine if you have stuff... desperate people will not care that you have guns or cross bows. They will come in in large masses whether you like it or not.

In a distress type situation people very quickly revert to being savages. I mean just look at Hurricane track record... people steal, people rob... I remember pictures of Katrina and helicopters flying and showing people stealing plasma tvs carrying them on top of their heads... yep... they were not stealing generators or food... they were stealing electronics. During great north east power outage of year 2005 or whenever that was.... people started breaking in and vandalizing on day 3. Hurricane Sandy... same thing.

At the end of the day I can tell you that I am not adequately prepared. I moved from a 6 acre property with a garden and tons of places to hide stuff to a subdevelopment where every time we get power outages (of which there are a lot in florida)... people walk outside and are completely lost because we are so overly dependent on electricity.

I remember back when my backup power supply still worked I was watching a movie and like 600 people started walking towards my home like a zombie. I had to turn that stuff off so quick... people wanted to charge phones, send emails... heat baby food...

I honestly think that idea of being prepared is actually very good. For example to heat food I can use my propane grill. I always have tons of pasta and canned vegetables that I eat. It's not like I have food for a month or anything but definitely for a couple of days.

In all honesty I do not think that December 21st will bring anything but I do know that our shortfalls lie in fact that we are dependent on oil, electricity, lack of being able to protect what little food we have left in the fridge... honestly... when power goes out food spoils really fast, gas stations can not pump gas and you are SOL.

I plan to be here on 22nd thank you very much. I already have tickets bought to fly and visit my family so bring it on mayans.

Before last night I'd never bother to watch the show, after watch 2 last night the thing that stood out most was how much I wanted those 2 hours of my life back.

    Couple of other thoughts where:
I hope those people put some money aside for the kids therapy, they are going to be seeing a shrink for YEARS.

My favorite part was when the Texas Chiropractor (the one the killed the goat to teach his son to be a man) was laying on the ground and crying like a little girl.

If the shit really ever did hit the fan, his prepping "partner" would no doubt be the victim of an accident very early on and Tex would be doing both wives.
How could the partner not see, he'd be putting himself at the mercy of Tex?

If the world ever did become anarchy, I'd be more inclined to run the car in the garage with my loved ones and pass away very peacefully.

I know, I hate paying for. Just another way to make a dollar. I guess in a way its good, for derps that would drive their unsafe peice of shit, and possibly hurt my family. I don't know.

The problem with this is you are assuming YOU are always going to come out on top of EVERY confrontation that comes your way.

Would it be better for a young child to see everyone that has taking care of them die in a firefight or is it better to hold the same child and have them go to sleep peacefully? Try seeing this from the eyes of a 4 year old.

You want to call names, go on.

How easy do you think it would be knowing you are killing a child?
