Haha. That one is a little too tall for me, either that or it needs bigger tires:D and those rims are hideous... Besides I don't have any work to do with a truck. That thing just needs to look pretty and tow a trailer:D haha Oh and if is was fast that wouldn't hurt either. haha

Yea a small lift a slightly bigger tires isn't bad. But it's just over done all the time

I hate that too. It's a freaking truck and a diesel at that..it's..never..going to be fast. Keep it as a work truck haha

I like to mod shit, so if I have the funds it will probably happen:D haha
Plus by the time I get to that point in my life, that thing would probably just be my DD to the office and back. Wouldn't do much else. Like I said no work to do. Maybe haul a piece of furniture or an appliance here and there, but that would likely be it.

There are some damn fast diesels out there so idk power = speed for the most part and controllers arent that expensive all things considered.

Yeah when it comes to trucks, I think diesels are some of the fastest on avg, but that may have to do with the fact that all modern diesel trucks are boosted and you hardly ever see a boosted gas motor in a truck. Well there are quite a few boosted Tacos out there, but even the boosted X-runners have a hard time making the kind of power those diesel make from the factory, let alone one you start dropping money into them.

Can't guarantee the Diesel will be faster cuz you are comparing a 3500lb 2WD to a 7000+lb 4WD, but given enough mods you might could give those X's a run for their money.

Yeah, but peak hp and peak torque are somewhat related really. haha Diesels typically have way way more torque than hp because they red line at such low rpms.

Also, do companies not test diesels for MPG? I can't find the fuel economy for any diesel pickup listed anywhere, other than people saying what they are getting.

my friends BF that works at bullydog had a 5.9 cummins twin turbo and hes pushing 120lb of boost and getting 1600+ torque. hell spin out in two wheel drive on the free way at 80 if he punches it. that would spank and Xrunner.

Exactly, because without torque you have no hp either. HP=(TorquexRPM)/5252
Since most diesels red line around 3500 rpm, and that is much smaller than 5252 so their HP numbers are always small compared to their torque numbers. The only way you can produce more HP than torque is if you can maintain a good torque number over 5252 RPM. So if a diesel brags to you about having 800hp or someshit, there are good odds he could be pushing twice that much torque depending on what RPM he made that HP number.

If he can keep traction. haha

In this example lets say this guy made the 1600 ftlb of torque at redline (3500 RPM) that mean at the most he is pushing just under 1100 HP. Most of the time your torque peak is in the middle of the power band though, so now let's say realistically it is around 2500 RPM where he makes 1600 ftlbs. Now his peak HP there is around 750 HP, but if it can maintain decent torque numbers up to red line that number will go up.

On rigs that can make higher rpms, like those 4 banger ricers that can redline at 9000 RPM, they only need to make 580 ftlbs of torque to achieve 1000 HP, almost only a third of what the diesels need.

So basically I'm not saying it's dumb to brag about how much power diesels make, but I guess it would be dumb to compare those HP numbers to a gasoline engine, when you can just shut them up by bragging about your torque number easier. haha:D

Massive gear ratios! haha Think about a crawl box on our tacomas. 1st gens make 220 ftlbs of torque. Lets say you have a crawlbox with everything in low/1st, and that gives you a 200:1 total ratio. You can now apply 44000 ftlbs of torque to the wheels (not exactly because of some loss due to weight of drivetrain, etc). But like all mechanical advantages you are trading speed for force or torque. Crawlboxs are crazy powerful, but pretty slow. Just like tractors. Tractors make pretty low power numbers, but even in 22nd gear, they top out at like 25mph.

When you dyno a vehicle and they say, it makes "this much" hp or torque at the rear wheels, the dyno is compensating for your gear ratios and recalculates it to a 1:1 ratio. The reason the number also goes down from the flywheel rating is because of all the extra rotating mass of the tranny, driveline, tires, etc.

If you haven't noticed, I really enjoy physics:D

I like the Electrical stuff better:) I'd rather keep the physics stuff as a side hobby. Don't care to get into the super technical side of physics, like when you start factoring air resistance into calculations and other pain the ass stuff like that. No I haven't taken dynamics, don't have to as an EE major.

I don't know the exact name of all of my classes from here on out but they are all EE classes, so maybe one of them is a EE relevant version of dynamics. I am in Engineering physics right now though. Closest I think I get to dynamics.

We finished up all of our statics and dynamics stuff not to long ago and got deeper into gravity, and fluids. Now we are starting waves. Next semester we will be getting more into the electrical side of things, probably the only reason the EE's have to take this class. haha

It too bad you couldn't take this class with me Mark. I think you would love my teacher haha. He is a freaking genius and pretty cool, total bro though. He has worked in all kinds of fields and has all kinds of hobbies. Show's dressed like a bro everyday and spends a lot of his weekends on a dirt bike in the dunes in AF. It is pretty interesting some of the tangents we get off on. Like last week we were discussing why he thinks North Korea doesn't really have nuclear weapons, based on his research into seismic activity around North Korea, all of which is available to the public around world. I guess he used to work for oil companies a lot of years ago and they would use seismographs and dynamite to find oil underground, so he knows it pretty well. He also races bullet bikes and writes for magazines and gets to test drive new bikes all the time!!

Plus the guy knows how to handle students haha. He has been teaching at ISU for just over 20 years and does a point system. Every problem you do is worth so many points and you have to have x amount of points to get x grade, rather than just giving you the percentage you got right. Then he give you 20 "good citizen points" at the beginning of the year that he can add to or remove as he sees fit. Like if a student misses a question on an exam and comes in to argue about it with him, cuz they can and want the points, not necessarily because they did it right or something, and he said, " Yeah I may give you some of your 3-4 points back but then I will dock you 10 of your GCP's" haha. Genius! He said by all means if you lost points because of a mistake by a grader or him, then yes come see him though. He's pretty cool about that stuff.

I was looking your route, and was thinking, "Is it really faster to get to LA without going through Vegas..." Then I noticed that you intentionally went through Moab and the Grand Canyon. haha

Looks like a shit ton of driving, but should be fun with the pitstops and a good road mate. What are you driving?
