I rent a farmhouse on a secluded 300 acre farm with a detached 2-car garage. Sometime between Thursday night and Friday afternoon the garage was broken into and they stole 2 fourwheelers and my bow. I got home from work Friday night and noticed the garage door open and walked in and realized what had happened. I was so pissed!

I immediately called the law and they sent out a state trooper. When he got there he informed me that somehow one of the 4wheelers (mine) had been recovered not far from my house, but my roommates bike was still missing. He got all our info and walked around the property and took some pics and stuff.

I got on the phone with my landlords grandson who is younger and has a lot of friends in the area to ask if he had heard anything related. He immediately had a suspicion about this kid who had a history of stealing stuff in the area. He called this girl that knows this group of kids. Turns out, she was out riding around with 2 of the guys that night and thwy were bragging about stealing the 4 wheelers, and they pointed out a stretch of woods where they stashed one of them, about 10 miles from my house. On Saturday we called the law again and picked up this girl and she took us and the state troopers out to the area where they were hiding it. Sure enough, after about 5 mins of walking around, we located it. The key was gone but we pushed it out and loaded it up.

No word on my bow, i have a feeling its long gone by now. They're holding my 4 wheeler at the state trooper barracks for evidence and fingerprints. It blows my mind, and its infuriating! I've lived there for close to three years and never had an issue. Just goes to show that your stuff isn't safe anywhere. Make sure you lock up your stuff and keep a close eye on all your belongings! Hopefully they have enough evidence to bring these kids in and lock em up for a while. I now know what one of the guys looks like. If i see him in public its gonna be hard not to serve him a serious ass-whoopin.

Sounds like you live in the sticks. I would think someone who knows you would have to have been involved. They knew what you have, they knew when the house would be empty. Any new contacts lately?

A friend of mine drove an 85 Camry while he was new in town, knew very few people, and was attending school. Other than the basic aftermarket stereo installed in the dash, it looked like a normal old lady car. He gave a new aquaintance a ride home from class one day. Two weeks later he had his sub stolen. Another week later they came back for the deck and amp. Only way a thief would have known there was anything worth stealing is if he had ridden in the car and heard the stereo.

Glad you got your quads back. I'm sure it's a rotten feeling getting your stuff ripped off though.

Wow that sucks man! My dad has had his kx500 2 stroke stolen from our garage, along with a few bicycles we keep in there. Never got the kx500 back but we found one bike.

It's certainly possible, but I haven't really met anybody new lately. The farm lane is close to 2 miles long, and at one end of it are some houses. One of the suspected kids lives in one of those houses. I will occasionally ride my 4wheeler up to the mailbox and check the mail, so I think word might have got around that way. The farm is surrounded by public land and woods on all 4 sides, so it would not be hard to hide in the woods and scope the place out before they made there move.

It's funny you mention that. No, I do not, but I actually called my insurance company 3 days before this happened and got a quote for it and told them I'd call them back and set it up. Then this happened. Figures.

this happened to me Christmas Eve of last year. All I can say is keep on top of the police, you have to keep pushing if you want something to be done.

Sounds like some punk ass kids need to serve some jail time or community service. Hopefully they'll get the message then. Glad you got most of the stuff back. If the perps turn up I'd expect you would give the go ahead for the maximum penalty they can get.

Hey at least you were thinking about it. Usually it takes something like this to happen before people get it. Even if it's a high deductible policy, I guarantee it's less than 1 four wheeler, maybe even the bow.

Not only photos, but a complete description and all identifying numbers.

Do an inventory of your house, room by room and make a comprehensive list. Store the list on a cloud server program such as "Dropbox", that way you can access it from any computer anywhere. Can also share folders with friends or relatives.

Since your place sounds like it is in an isolated/rural area, you also might want to consider one of these security systems, set up on a motion sensor: http://www.costco.com/surveillance-systems.html

Mmmm I like this idea. I have mine in a spot in my place. Obviously if it was ransacked or burned down I wouldn't have it. I will be doing this one day. Right now I don't have a lot of stuff I would really care about but it's still a good idea.

Sorry to hear op. Not to threadjack but I'm going through similar fears. I live just outside of Memphis city limits in a newer house of a subdivision with less than 60 homes in what would be considered not a bad area. There were 2 break-ins within 12 hours that are only a couple houses away from mine. Kicking in back doors, after what seems to be they are staking out waiting till people are gone. They'll break in the wrong house one day and find themselves staring down someone's barrel. Probably Obama supporters.

That's right, I said it people.

    Good luck.

That sucks. Did the girl give the names of the kids doing it? You got burglarized though, not robbed.
