i would be very unhappy about it. very..

but i would let them try to fix the frame..and then bitch if it was unsatisfactory. i've seen some amazing fixes on bent frames. you wouldnt even notice.

Truth be told I REALLY don't want trac/atrac/vsc/entune, any of that crap. Though I'd be tempted if it was set up the same as my truck and with next to 0 miles. I only have 65k though. A stock 12/13 with no miles. I'll keep mine. Just saying...

It is about money. Do you think businesses do what they do for their good health? Of course not, they're making money!

I do not think the OP's problem is overly severe. He bought the truck in March, had it looked at a week later and decided it was fine. Now, 9 months later it's a big deal. If it was serious, he should have dealt with it on week 1. The fact that he didn't leads me to believe that it's not really that bad. Keep in mind that big superpac corporation offered to fix the problem under the vehicle's warranty. It's not a loophole, if Toyota screwed up, they should be afforded the opportunity to fix their mistake. They also offered to give him a fair market value for the truck if he wanted to trade it in ($7,000 off sticker for a 9 month old truck isn't bad for trade in). Again, if this was week 1, it'd be a different story. I'd still be pissed if I were him but the arguments he's hearing in this thread will be the same ones he's going to hear on the other side of the courtroom. I'd let them fix the problem and move on.

Yeah, look at his truck, it's pretty built up... Once you have the truck the way you want, who wants to start over??

Honestly, I have a 2007 and am pleased as punch that I don't have all the electronic bullshit that the new trucks have. Sure if someone handed me a brand new truck I'd be thrilled, but I'm not going to purchase one anytime in the near future and financials are NOT the reason why...

To go with this... It would be just as if Toyota had spotted the error and fixed it before you bought the truck.. You just happened to notice the error before them. Big deal, as long as they fix it correctly then you still have a brand new truck. and if you are worried about a decrease in value, keep the paperwork from the repair when you go to sell it or trade it in and if anyone asks you have proof the truck was fixed by Toyota and not one of your friends with a hammer. Your truck will be fine after Toyota fixes the problem and if they don't it's still under warranty so they still have to find a fix..

few months ago when i was doing a frame replacement for a Tundra at my dealership the "brand new" frame that was sent to us was twisted. we sent it out to a local collision center and they brought it back within spec. not sure if the customer was told when it was brought back to us you wouldn't have known. had to do this b/c we couldn't order another frame for the truck.

First of all that sucks, you buy an expensive truck and you want it to be perfect. I would let Toyota try and make it right if they cant then get an attorney involved.

wow...was a notice sent to the parts place? There a process within Toyota to refuse bad parts? Yeah it sucks, but that would be the right thing to do.

I'd hope the customer was told, even with the repair, the frame should have whatever warranty a brand new frame should have.

Just thinking about the "what-ifs" that may never happen and a real investigation comes out where a "brand-new" part arrived damaged, but had more work done on it..what if that extra work actually weakened the frame causing stress fractures and later stuff breaking?

Negligence and liability would be all over the place.

I DID address it. There is no proof anywhere that would show it would be devalued. If Toyota, through a certified dealership, were to have the frame structurally corrected due to a MINOR defect (I mean come on, 12mm IS minor when it comes to frames) then there would be no reason to expect a devaluation.

You are wasting your time trying to sue the dealership. There are no laws in effect nor federal mandate that requires a dealership to examine every square inch of a vehicle before it is sold. Get real here. That is like saying you will sue Walmart because you bought a Mitsubishi TV and Mitsubishi won't give you a new one, but only replace the power supply.

I would not be bothered in the cost of a vehicle if the frame had been straightened at the dealership when it shows signs of a 12mm error. The frame is not DAMAGED, it is out of spec from possible shipping, or a slightly twisted frame. (Which, by the way, if the frame was twisted during shipping, you can't blame Toyota, you have to blame the shipping company then)

I will again state that a dealership, while it does do an extensive inspection of a vehicle when it comes off the truck, could not be reasonably expected to go over an entire truck's every square inch. I WILL say that yes, a slightly twisted frame MAYBE should have been caught, but again, it is not the dealership's fault. They are simply the middle-man.

No need to come in as a new member and start insulting people. Constructive comments will go much further.

Again, where is your proof that it will be devalued? Just because YOU feel it might be, does not mean that the auto industry as a whole will agree.

I agree with the bolded text above.

Toyota DID make a reasonable attempt to make it right.

What problem is the frame bend causing? Will it not align correctly? Is it sagging on one side? I mean real problems, not the made-up stuff like resale value.

Personally if it wasn't affecting usability I'd opt to not care.

Find a DANA guy and find out what the tolerance specs are for the Taco frame. If it's within tolerance, then the hell with it.

This. NO ONE makes a good truck out of the factory. That's gonna be up to the owner after purchase.

People never seem to realize how much "within spec" comes into play during motor vehicle manufacture. See: offset beds, toyota lean, variable oil consumption, etc.

You people are expecting tolerance levels that are not economical. This is industrial manufacture of complex machines. Shit's gonna be a bit different from truck to truck. Toyota offered to fix it. Not satisfied with that? Then move to a planet where that's not a fair offer. You bought a truck from them, not a resale value. You could've put it into a tree a week after purchase and fucked your resale and insurance premium. You didn't. Toyota let it get through QC with a tweaked frame. They offered to make it right. You declined (for some reason?). What's the complaint again?

If they'd never offered to fix, that would've been a different story, but shit like this is why the warranty is there in the first place.

If the fixed it then why would it matter. I mean come on out of thousands of vehicles and the millions of parts in each there is such a high chance for something to be incorrect. As long as its fixed and certified by Toyota then no I wouldn't have a problem. Yes I would be mad about the situation but as long as it was fixed in the proper manner it would be all good with me.

I'll agree to disagree because this thread has run it's course.

You can't expect every single thing that is crafted from multiple parts to be perfect out of the box. You have to look at the parts as a whole while being thorough and timely. Work in a manufacturing setting and you will see that many parts get rejected but not everything gets caught right away. Then throw material handling and shipping in and it's now out of your control.

Kinda surprised this happened, because the bumpstops are supposed to absorb the shock when the suspension bottoms out.

Oh I'm not saying everything ever manufactured is perfect and that everything is the same...I know that, and that's fine it's just a part of life...mistakes...but I'm just mad for OP that buying a new truck and his frame (may be out tweaked to out of spec)...that's not his fault, buying a new vehicle you shouldn't have to worry about a frame being messed up or atleast out of spec...now if the bed alignment and stuff is so obvious to the eye, I never would have bought the truck, and that's sort of his fault for not seeing...I'm not on eithers side really...I just thought it was a little ridiculous some people were saying it doesnt matter

I was beating the truck pretty good before i got a quality suspension on the front. the frame shop guy said both towers were 1/2 inch leaning in. he drilled small holes in them and pulled them back into spec now my alignment is good+ I also had to do a passenger spindle swap becasue that was bent like a 1/4 inch too
