I have searched on here for a couple weeks now and Im really up in the air about a spacer lift. I have been looking at the toytec spacer lift with aal and I love the price, just the 2 inch. Im not going to be doing serious offroading and its my dd. Maybe way down the road I will do a big lift but for right now Im looking to do something easy and hate to say it but cheaper. I know you get what you pay for and all that. Is it safe? Thats my biggest concern considering it will transport my family. Thanks

They're totally fine and safe if installed correctly, tons of people have them(like other lifted trucks) they're fine for a DD and on road, ride will be a little stiffer...I'm sure it'd be okay for light light off roading too, but I wouldn't push it. but yeah they're a great cheap lift. Just stiffer ride and I think it's downtravel that you lose in the suspension

There's nothing wrong with the top spacer lifts. Our FJ has one, and it rides like stock.

We did have to install Light Racing UCA's to get the right amount of Caster in the alignment. Tacos may be different, but just an fyi

I put the toytec 3" spacer lift up front and it looks good and almost level with the tsb aal. Also it rides just like stovk, just be a little cautious going over curbs and things like that.

If you want to go blocks, I'd recommend the Pro Comps. The advantage to pro comp is that your spacer sits above the strut. So it does not compress your springs and will maintain factory ride quality. I have them on mine and love them. I have the leveling kit so I have a U Bolt for the rear. You can buy the kit for front and rear (leveling) or just front.

Sub'd. Also, would anyone on here be able to offer advice on how (if it's even necessary?) to go about relocating the exhaust and bumpers to accommodate for the lift?

If you are just doing it for looks, then OK.

    If not...

is that missing a bolt? so is this just someone incorrectly installing them or has this happened on more than one occasion?

It has happened more than once. Maybe not with the toytec spacer, but with ones that preload the springs and thus lessen the travel of the shock itself.

Nope the strut assembly will bottom out before it hits the bumps top, cause the shock to break as seen.

Yeah, I wouldn't completely agree with all of the bad mouthing on spacers on here. Spacers can you to lose a little travel which means you can bottom out easier, but as Ben said, 3" are going to cause you lose to much travel. As far as all the broken shocks pics, the only way you are going to break a shock like that is to bottom is out hard. There is only 1 way you are going to bottom out a shock, not tall enough bump stops. Then you have to mix short bump stops with a really hard bump or a landing, both of which involve you driving pretty fast. In short spacers are a low cost lift that works at what it is designed to do, lift. If you don't plan on mobbing at through the desert with your Tacoma you should be fine.
